Back in 2015 I had the privilege to harvest a bull elk with my late dad’s Remington M721 in 300 H&H.
That had been a goal of mine for years.
My wife has recently inherited two rifles that were her father’s who passed away 40+ years ago.
The first is a Savage 110 in 30-06 and the second is a...
My wife is back in Montana to visit friends and family. She called last night and said she was gifted her late father’s model 94.
He passed away in a mining accident in 1965 when she was two years old.
I have been wanting to get another one of these as it’s the rifle and cartridge that I...
I still have all of the empty cartridge boxes that my dad had. Most are not in real good shape but I can’t seem to ever part with them. They bring back memories of my dad and hunts long ago.
I also remember my dad shooting round nose Bullets out of his 300 H&H while elk hunting and always...
I normally aim right behind the front shoulder at deer and elk. I have have very few DRT.
Most ran a short distance before expiring, some longer than others.

All interesting information, thank you all. Maybe I will start low and do a side by side comparison using both primers looking for best accuracy and velocity.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I would definitely start over if I changed any component during the process. I was just curious why people substituted magnum primers on a mid range non-magnum caliber and what the benefits could be. I knew that they would burn differently and it makes sense that...
I am going to load up some Partitions and Accubonds in 180 grains for one of my 30-06 rifles.
The powder will be Ramshot Hunter.
The book (Nosler #6) lists a regular primer to be used but I have seen many load recommendations on different forums for the use of a magnum primer.
What does one...
Thanks for all of the feedback. I think I will start low with this powder and bullet combo and see how it goes. I will be sure to post results when I am finished.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the information.
I did look at the Ramshot site before posting the question, but it only listed the 180 BT and E- Tip. I wondered if the BT minimum loads would work for AB’s since these bullets are “somewhat” similar (polymer tip boat tails) and can shoot similar...
I have some Ramshot Hunter that I would like to try with an 180 grain AccuBonds in my 30-06.
Nosler #8 lists the powder info in 200 grain pills but not 180’s.
What is the process to find a safe starting load to test using this combo? In the past I have always just used one of the powders listed...
Polaris,
Thanks for the information. I had never been on the Richard’s microfit website and they have some good choices at pretty reasonable prices.
Much appreciated.

I really enjoy shooting my 300 H&H. The recoil is “pleasant” for a 300 magnum and I could shoot it all day without discomfort. It is a old Remington 721 workhorse that I inherited from my dad so I am sentimentally biased. It is a neat old rifle.

Looking for a stock for a LA right hand stock for a very early 110. This rifle was probably manufactured in 1957-58. Please let me know if you have one to spare.
Thanks,
I am going to get serious and work up good loads for my hunting rifles.
So the 243, 270, 7mm-08, 30-06 (x2) and 300 H&H will all see some work this spring/summer.

Guy, all very good suggestions thank you.
I did not have a spotting scope and could not see where the rifle was hitting during the 5 shots. I would have liked to know which one was the flier. I shot these 5 shells because they were necked down 30-06 headstamps and I don’t like mismatched...
I just got a bag of new Winchester brass for the 30-06 (Early Christmas gift) and have a few bags of 165 grain partitions to load up. It should be fun to see what I can do with it.
The 270 I will tweak a bit and see what happens but it might be pretty close already.
Camo
You are correct. I pretty much use Remington brass in my other 30-06 so I have put brass of a different flavor on my Christmas list. I have two sets of dies so can have a separate set for both rifles too.
Then I have another older Leupold 3x9 looking for a new home so this rifle might get an...
I also took a vintage Savage 30-06 out today for the first time. It was my wife’s dad’s rifle. He was killed in a mining accident when my wife was two. Her uncle passed this rifle to her a few years back. I used shells that I keep for fouling shots only so I was not expecting much. Again wanted...
Dr Mike, I agree.
This was my FIL’s hunting rifle and even though he reloaded I am sure that he was satisfied with groups like this. It will be interesting to see if I can improve them. I am also thinking about swapping out the F&S 4 power for an older vari-x II in 3x9 but not sure if I should...
