Well you're at Nosler's max w/ 760. I haven't played with any .375 cal ABs but a buddy uses them almost exclusively in his 375 Ruger with excellent results. The ABs I have played with generally like a bit of a jump to the rifling. (You are .005" longer than Nosler's OAL) Don't know how tight...
I grew up in Upstate NY and won't be going back. There are lots of deer and lots of regulations. The only wilderness you'll likely find is in the Adirondacks but deer density is relatively low there.
Well that's the bottom line. Sierras do generally shoot well. If i have a finicky rifle, and it won't shoot Sierras I figure it needs fixing. Once you get set up to reload again you can get that same performance with a few different powders. I have two loads for my BLR. 225 Sierra & 225...
Hunting gun or range gun? You should do what you feel is best but if for hunting I'd leave it as is and spend the money for components and stockpile that recipe. 40 rnds for a hunting rifle is a long session. 40 rnds for 300 anything would be a long session for me. You may end up having to tweak...
Never used Buffalo Bore 358 loads but if all you get is 2300fps w/ a 225gr bullet they are underloaded. 2400+ is easily & safely doable out of a 20" barrel. The 358 doesn't lose much out of a short barrel. 35 cal bullets are generally designed to cover Whelen velocities which just makes them...
I have hunted deer and hogs with a 375 H&H. You don't need premium bullets, cup & core that are accurate in your rifle will work just as well. Some 260/270gr factory loads can have felt recoil worse than the 300 grainers. If you want to drop the recoil drop the velocity with whatever bullet you...
The K-31 can stand .308 pressures easily. As far as rebarreling it to .308... that is completely foolhardy. You could buy a stack of very nice K-31s for the price of rebarreling one. It is not just simply screwing on a new barrel. It has been done but there is no advantage over the 7.5 Swiss. I...
Ruger's are a bit different. Who would have guessed ;-)?
RUGER Ring Mounts:
The sequence and torques are:
1. Base screw, torque to 60 inch-pounds. I finger snug this screw and then loosen it back a bit to make sure the
dovetail nut is seated in the receiver pocket prior to final torquing.
2...
I bet that 7x57 had a long throat and would have shot better with heavier/longer bullets.
I would break the sharp edges that bother you and mark the brass. Work the action as stated and shoot it. Check the bore for copper fouling and clean it as necessary. I would also disassemble the bolt and...
As stated for hunting it is a .308 equivalent. I haven't reloaded for any of mine but have one set up for hunting and used it one year for deer. I tried Hornady SP factory ammo and it groups as well as the GP-11. Haven't shot it enough to get enough reloadable brass to start rolling my own...
Get it clear with your outfitter. "Stumble on" means seeing a bear while moose hunting. Once a moose is down the bear option is over with. There really isn't any bear hunting per se. Finding sign by chance doesn't mean your guide will pursue it as he is hunting moose. Not shooting a good moose...
Would you consider the 358 Win. an adequate caliber for hunting the larger north American game like elk and moose? - Yes to both and have the antlers to prove it.
What would you consider the maximum useable range, 250 or 300 yards? - My criteria, yours may vary... What is the max range...
The only issue with the Speer FP is it's low BC limiting range. Not having to use flat points is a big advantage to the 99 & BLR lever guns. 24" barrel? I'd like to hear chono results.
Run the numbers and you'll probably find the 225's are the way to go w/ a 358. You don't gain enough velocity w/ 200's to make them worthwhile and you lose too much w/ the 250's. You can safely get 2450 fps with 225's and you don't really need any more. I don't see any need for a monolithic...
