95 grain Ballistic Tip failure on a whitetail

Hard to get rid of a bullet bias, I’ve one against Sierra’s, I’ll never hunt with them again. :)

New BT load, performance on game?

I love Ballistic tips on deer. I try to stay off the big bones. With my crew we’ve killed well over 100 mule deer with a variety of BT. Never lost an animal, including a couple that were hit in the Rumen. Hit in the lungs or heart they are devastating. My favorite hunt area puts me on a high...

    WESTERN WYOMING OUTFITTERS

Personally I think stock add a whole lot of work to a trip if you're hunting solo. Breaking an elk down on the ground can be a little intimidating the first time, Para cord is your friend, as is a head lamp, a spare headlamp and spare batteries. Packing elk out is heavy work, a rear quarter...

300 WSM vs 300 Win Mag

Well, since there is so much to consider between the winchester cartridges I think you should just go with the Grand daddy of them all, 300 HH.:)

    2024 Hunting Season

That is some good looking ground, Happy kid. Well done. If you need a couple of those ground cages to hold pigeons or any other birds let me know. I have a couple left I would send you. They are old school, the kind you step on to release the bird when you’re satisfied with the point. I liked a...

Work Sharp Elite (blade sharpener) flipped my thinking...

The only complaint I have with the worksharp is sharpening thin blades at 15 degrees,The strone runs into the jaws. At 20 there is enough clearance. I took a jewelers file to the jaws and solved the problem. Keeping a ceramic “steel” around tunes them up quickly. Really only takes a couple of...

    125gr NP

If it shows up (RL17) I’m buying all I can with what ever is left in my monthly disposable income account. :) I’ve owned three 6.5 creedmores, sold the first two and for the life of me I can’t figure out what all the fuss is about. But I’m still trying to learn. Anyway, I have had very good luck...

95 grain Ballistic Tip failure on a whitetail

I’ve killed an awful lot of deer with Ballistic Tips, mostly 30, 25, and 284 caliber. It was designed for deer and antelope and Im certain the guys at Nosler get very frustrated when folks complain they didn’t work so well on bigger stuff. My experience is they are not very good at going...

    Best 20 for the money

Guy I have the same skb 20 ga. I’ve bought and traded upwards of 25 side by sides over the last 50 years. The skb in my opinion is the best value out there. I sold several of them to clients when I was guiding, 4 or 5 as I recall. They wanted to try a side by side before they spent good money on...

    It’s my Birthday!

Dale I was a Cat Skinner in the 70s early 80s building logging roads on 80% hill sides. Got smart and went into law enforcement before I got killed. Rolled a D7 on a very steep rock hillside, cat slid, hung on a stump and flipped. Threw me about 20 yards down the hill. I got lucky.

    It’s my Birthday!

In fact there is one. I ordered an Italian made, Fausti Family double last year. Custom fit to my measurements with cast on and reversed triggers for a left handed shooter. It was supposed to be here by October. Still no delivery date. Could be a Christmas present. Hope I get it before next...

    Best 20 for the money

https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1066114937 Some where in your area is the Lost Blue Pot Gold strike. In the 1850s a lost wagon train stumbled upon surface gold in a creek. They were near death so it didn’t attract the attention it otherwise may have. The next spring several of the men tried to...

Technical question regarding temperature and powders.

Go for it, why not. If the rancher who swore he would never sell to the yuppies had never sold to the yuppies I’d have a winter shooting shack at the back of the barn, but now it’s just not a safe thing to do.

    Lighter Recoil...

When I joined this forum in 2013, with the exception of a tool, a lightly dressed Ar-15; light and reflex sight only, and a .22-250, my light rifle was a 30/06 and my heavy was a .577 Nitro Express. Throw a 300; 8mm Remington; 338, 375 HH inbetween. A D1 wrestling career, 20 years as a DT...

    Grandson's first deer

I think it’s great to see a young hunter get his first deer. I still remember mine. I took something else from this story however. Situational awareness. While it can be taught, or a good drill instructor can beat it into you to some extent situational awareness is also a genetic trait. Anyone...

    Best 20 for the money

Dale if you’re a left handed gun hack take the single trigger option, guys with big farm fingers, or logger fingers tend to pick up that left, rear trigger with the meat of the finger. Devastating on Huns and Chukars but kinda hard on the cheek and shoulder. Just saying!

    30-06 Reload Max Length

I get my best results with the partitions off the lands, .02-.05 : I wouldn’t worry about what the book says is max length as every chamber is going to be different. Your limiting factor may be your magazine box. If you find your chamber has eroded a little your magazine may not allow cartridges...
