I have a newer Remington 700 sps long action that has been wasting safe space so I have decided to build a rifle. I have ordered a Shilen Match Grade SS #3 contour .30, 1/10 twist barrel and plan to chamber in 30-06....Cant explain why, I have no need for one, never liked the cartridge, and...
I have a bunch of powder in both of these but have never played with them in the 270...But I have heard how great both of these can be in the cartridge. The Nosler 7 and 8 manuals don't list either one for 130 grain loads...
Anyone out there got load data to work on and up to with these...
Has anyone out there tried these in your .270? I really need to be content, but the rifle looney in me says give them a whirl? They really seem to be a 130 TTSX with a slightly better b.c.
For those who shoot barnes - are there any tricks? I have read a general consensus that they like to be...
I realize that every barrel/chamber/caliber are different...but typically do nosler partitions usually like to have more or less jump to the lands?
In my 270 the chamber is a tad loose so I have always loaded to max mag length and done fine - never measured by assume there is not too much jump.
I have started a goal/dream/quest per say to hunt all of the North American game with this one rifle. (Gotta have big dreams!) While its a stretch, who knows - maybe I win the lottery...
It started out as a nice wood stocked high gloss, FN Winchester 70, 270 with Leupold mounts/rings...
If its not going to get anyone in trouble, would someone be willing to copy/paste/or attach the page from a recent Barnes Manual for 375HH and 270gr TSX...
I just need to see what powder they are using besides the stand alone R-15.
Thanks
Would someone with QL software or the Hornady book be able to share data on loading this? Will be shooting out of a 9 twist 26" barrel in an attempt to develop a 600 yard load.
About the only powder I have on hand that may work is Reloader 15...But probably can find some Varget or others if...
Thanks for all the advise...I think I have decided on the rifle...Going to go with a Ruger American .223 with the 1/8 twist 22" barrel. I plan to shoot 50,53,55 grain bullets depending what shoots best. I have kind of been drawn to the idea of a "lighter, walking varminter" setup.
Still not...
Right now I plan to find a good fast 55 grain load. Can the 1/12 twist shoot heavier low drag long range bullets? Any other thoughts?
WHOOPS.....I had intermingled some info...the 55 grain loads were IF I went with a 22-250 - which is not available...
I would plan to shoot the 40 grain loads...
Last few years every spring I have headed out here in Idaho and plinked around with a remington 597m .22 with a weaver 2-7x scope at ground squirrels and even the occasional badger and even a coyote or two. Being a big spring bear hunter, varmints really didn't do much for me.
But this year, I...
I just recently put together a starter rifle for my 8 year old son so he can start practicing for the next two years and be comfortable going afield when he turns 10. The rifle we choose was a Remington 700 ADL youth .243, with a 20" barrel and shortened youth stock. I put talley lw mounts on...
In the new Nosler 8 manual it shows a starting load with IMR 4320 behind 33 grains that shows 2700 FPS...The rifle we are loading for has a 20" barrel so I would expect that load to run around 2500 FPS in this rifle.
Per the recoil calculator that is around 5.5 pounds of recoil energy...I think...
I have had less than zero luck finding any Trail Boss powders to make up very reduced 243 loads to allow my 8 year old son to practice and learn to shoot. I have 90 grain ballistic tips to load.
According to the Nosler manual, a starting load of 38.0 grains in 760 is listed at around 2900...
Got the Zeiss scope mounted up...Not so sure about these dual dovetails....I lined them up with the Wheeler tool and also lapped the snot out of them. When I laser bore sited at 25 yards, my windage is essentially maxed out to line them up left/right. Toughest set of rings/bases I have ever...
It is 5.70" end from each end...
When you say talleys, are you meaning the 1 piece ringmounts? I had given those serious thought. Would those in a low clear a 40 mm ziess?
Question...None of the local outlets here have the Winchester 70 dual dovetail bases that I need for my new rifle - going to have to order from Midway. My question is, is the mounting area on a zeiss conquest 3-9x40 enough to get away with standard dual dovetails or should I order a reversible...
Pretty sure I will be using Leupold dual dovetails with leupold rings....Can anyone tell me, would I be able to get away with low rings or will I need mediums?
Schmidt and Bender....May not always fit your need, but realistically as fine as scope as is made in the word today...Do most people need a 2-3k, 1.5-6x42 or 3-12x50 hunting scope - no - but you did say the best!
Went down and picked her up off layaway today. I am sooo impressed on the fit and finish of these current production Winchesters - whatever they are doing in Portugal - keep it up!
The wood as you can see is pretty plain, but it seems very dense and just has a good solid feel about it. Tested...
