Pulled the trigger - Win 70 Safari Express 375

While I have never been too much of a leupold fan, they are offering $100 mail in rebates on all VX-3's purchased Nov. 15-Dec.31, so at this point I am really leaning towards a VX3 2.5-8X36 Matte Duplex...For basically $300 after rebate, not sure I could do much better and nothing beats it for...

Pulled the trigger - Win 70 Safari Express 375

Well I did it, went down to Sportsmans and put on layaway a new Winchester 70 Safari Express in 375 H&H...This is a really solid rifle. They only had one, which was good for me as the trigger on this rifle was amazing and it was hidden in the back corner - no handling or show marks. Don't know...

    New Production - Win 70 Safari Express 375 H&H

Yes, that is what I have read - Winchester uses the same barrel contour on all safari calibers. The barrel tapers to .720 at muzzle I believe...Sounds like about a #5/6 countour

    375 H&H 250 GR. TTSX Loads

Anyone loading/shooting this combo? What velocities are safely attained out of a 24" barrel....If I move on purchasing a 375, this is another bullet/load combo that has me intrigued.

    New Production - Win 70 Safari Express 375 H&H

Has anyone played around with one of these? I have a hankering to pick one up. Sportsmans has them for $1249, and while I don't need one - I just can't walk away from them. The fit and finish seem really good and the action is crystal smooth. The gun weighs 9 pounds so with a scope it will be...

first rifle for son - mule deer/antelope/elk

In the 7/08, I was thinking about loading a 120 ballistic tip or sierra soft point at about 25-2600 fps...should be very little recoil in a load like that and handle deer/antelope fine out to 200 yards which is the farthest I can imagine him shooting.

    WTB - 300 WSM Brass

Prefer unfired cheaper Winchester/federal brass, but open to what you have. Trying to pick up at least 40-50 or more. Adam idahotrophyhunter@gmail.com

first rifle for son - mule deer/antelope/elk

Well Plans have changed!!! - Funny how that works out...Was in Sportsmans today and started playing with rifles and long story short - the youth rifle project has now turned into a Weatherby Vanguard Youth 7mm/08...Has a spacer to adjust the stock from 12.5-13.6", little 20" barrel, nice...

first rifle for son - mule deer/antelope/elk

I think I am going to go the 257 Roberts option on a long Remington 700 or Winchester 70 action...When he gets bigger, full 120 nosler partition load will provide him all the pop he will need out to 300 yards.

first rifle for son - mule deer/antelope/elk

The alternate idea is a Tikka T3 Compact (12.5" lop) in 7mm/08...When he outgrows the stock, just need to replace with full size tikka stock.

first rifle for son - mule deer/antelope/elk

My son is going to be 10 in a couple years and I want to build him his first rifle this winter/spring so he can start learning to shoot on it with reduced hand loads. This rifle will be mainly for mule deer/antelope, but maybe also an occasional elk. Here is what I have in my mind... Action -...

2 big idaho bucks for me this year!!!

Had my best year on deer ever this year! Scored on two big DIY, public land, national forest bucks. I decided to purchase an Idaho non resident tag as a resident which allowed me to have two tags. The first deer was 26" wide, 4x5 (including brow tines). He was shot at about 40 yards with a 270...

    270 win, 130 partition, w760

Any body have any experience with this combo? I always shot IRM 4350 or 4831, but the nosler manual shows this as the fastest powder so I bought some. I do like how its a ball powder and it meters so much better in my scale. Is it very Temperatue Sensitive? Per the manual - If I can truly get...

Weatherproofing the inside of a wood stock

Any tips/suggestions/ideas for weatherproofing the inside of a wood stock? I have 4" of barrel channel and the tang bedded, but I was thinking of a couple of coats of oil in the rest of the insides to help against weather. Was reading a story about a guys ruger 77 changing multiple inches POA...

    Rifle stock project - update

This was done with a mixture of 75% tru oil and 25% mineral spirits...Normally I would just use tru oil but without a thinner it can dry to quick and become hard to work with

    Rifle stock project - update

I decided I wanted this to be ready so my wife can hunt deer with the rifle in late October, so I have been putting in the hours on this thing. As a recap, this is a new production Winchester 70 Super Grade 270. I bought it with the idea of working on the stock and really making the wood pop...

    Winter Project - starting early

Wanted to share some progress (This will be done a long way before winter - lol) Used Citristrip to strip as much as I could then fully sanded down to bare wood with 220, then 320, then a smooth finish with 400. Raised the grains and smooth with 400 a couple times and then started with the tru...

Fixing a Rifle Issue Quick - Imput needed

Montana, shipped a true magnum action in the standard action box - that's how the mixup started. 3.6" magnum action, magnum follower, magnum bolt. We have already taken it into the smith to have it rechambered for 270 weatherby. His grandpa never got the 270 Winchester stamped on the barrel so...

    Winter Project - starting early

I have been wanting to build a really nice wood stock rifle based on a Winchester 70 action...Just can't stomach spending 3-5k to have someone build it. So my counter to that was to find a new Winchester 70 Supergrade with nice wood and just take the factory finish off, re finish the wood to a...
