    When to be satisfied

A load of 56.6 gr of IMR4451 under a 180GR Nosler Partition shoots sub MOA in all three of my 30-06's. Velocity in the 24" barrels runs right around 2,750fps. In the Ruger Number 1 with its 22" barrel the velocity averages around 2,683fps in new cases, just over 2,700 in once fired cases...

    Fall hunting plans?

I will be hunting elk and deer in Montana after helping Rodger and will likely get a NY big game tag for deer and black bear. Bear are occasionally seen in NYDAN's area where I hope to hunt if I hunt NY.

    Hunting experience vs. wall hangers

As a young lad I always hunted with my Dad as long as he was able. Small game first, then Whitetails when I was old enough. Enjoyed those days very much, and wish that I could have them back. It was after my parents passed and family responsibilities were behind me, I booked my first elk hunt...

    YEEEEEEE HAAAAAA

My tags arrived and I am anxious to head west.. The mountains are calling and I must go..... Big decision is which rifle(s) to bring. The Remington 700 CDL took my first elk and Mulie, the Montana ASR took my elk at long range, (for me). The Ruger Number 1 is a sweet shooting accurate single...

    30-06

I currently have three 30-06's.. and use 180 grain Partitions or Accubonds. First is a left hand Remington 700 CDL purchased for my first trip to Montana in 2013 for elk and deer. Then I decided that I "needed" a rifle with a three position safety that would lock the bolt closed while hunting...

First elk hunt is officially a go

Tom, I have Kenetrek Hikers and Mountain Extreme for hunting, wear medium weight wool socks and have never, in 4 years, had a blister. Just my personal experience. Some time ago I read a suggestion, may have been in Elk Hunting Magazine or such, don't forget to trim the toe nails a week or so...

    YEEEEEEE HAAAAAA

We will be about 24 miles south of Alder MT. hunting National Forest land. That puts us roughly 50 miles north and west of Yellowstone National Park. I am looking forward to showing Rodger around the area and just being in Montana again. Upper Canyon Outfitters, Donna and Jake McDonald have a...

First elk hunt is officially a go

Congratulations on the draw, sounds like you are well on your way to a wonderful trip. Will you be guided or unguided? The 180 Partition will serve you well. Best of luck. Rol

    Enduron powders

IMR 4451 has been excellent in my 30-06 with 180gr Noslers. Added benefit is less copper but more carbon in the barrel. H4350 became non existent in my area.

One bullet choice for all of your rifles, for all big game?

Being limited to deer an elk I select the Nosler 180 Partition out of my 30-06. It has served me well at long range, (525 yds) out of my '06 and equally well on Whitetail at 70+/- yds nearly complete pass through length wise. The 180 Accubonds would be a good alternative.

    Beam scale or digital?

Do you have check weights to use with your scales? That would tell you a lot? I personally like my RCBS Chardemaster

    Favorite loads for 30.06 Springfield

Nosler cases, Federal 210 primer, 56.6 gr IMR 4451, 180 gr Partition, excellent accuracy in 3 rifles, velocity runs about 2,730 - 2,760 fps depending on New or once fired cases. less copper build up to remove however there is still powder residue to remove. Velocity is from a 24" barrel.

    Montana Draw

    Montana Draw

Only yesterday I assured TD that all was under control, re.. Licenses. Yes we both were drawn. Rodger and I will be South of Alder MT headquartered at Upper Canyon Outfitters.. I will be showing Rodger around on his unguided hunt, not carrying my rifle during his hunt as I will be hunting...

    Leupold Custom Scope

Rodger, I have the Zeiss 2-10x42HD with Rapid Z600 reticle and find it very accurate. I shot my elk @ 525yds in 2016 with this scope. Just picked up the Leupold VX3i 3.5-10x40 with Boone & Crockett reticle. The Leupold is very nice but I prefer the precision of the Zeiss.
