I just picked up a new Remington 700 Long Range in 30-06. It has a 26" varmint contour barrel. Would the longer barrel benefit more from a slower burning powder or should I stay with the usual suspects?
I just ordered a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP with EBR-1 MOA reticle today. It was a substantial discount. The scope was in stock and shipped immediately. Vortex is a top notch company in my eyes. I'll let you know what I think of the scope when it arrives.
Heath....I've played around with Unique and 405 gr LaserCast. If I remember correctly, 12.0gr was giving me around 1150fps from a Marlin 1895 CB. Very easy on the shoulder and acurate. I even took a wild hog with that load. Follow the data on that site and you'll be fine. I did not have to...
I went with a 16" 1-9 bull barrel from Blackhole Weaponry. I've gotten as high as 2750fps with H335, but had to back off the powder some.....I was running into pressure issues. I shoot comfortable around 2600fps. That is measured with a Shooting Chrony Beta. I'm not sure why the velocities...
Bear....I recently built an AR chambered in 6x45mm for my son to hunt with. I use the 85 gr Nosler Partition loaded with H 335 seated to 2.26". Hodgdon's lists data for the cartridge. Good luck. This is a fun little cartridge.
Here's my LR-338. It's currently at a local smith getting a FDE Cera cote job, a front sling swivel, and having a low profile gas block installed. I'll post updated pics when I get it back.
Nice rifle....I've got one just like it coming in next week. The one that I am getting is chambered in .338 Federal. I'll definitely be hand loading for mine after looking at the price of factory ammo.
Can you explain the use of an adjustable gas block? I'm curious about this, especially...
I load them for my son's 6x45mm AR. Accurate and kill like lightning. The muzzle velocity is an average of 2650fps from a 16" Black Hole Weaponry barrel.
