I would cast a vote for the Remington PLHP bullets as they are the only bullet I've spun to disintegration in a 1/7 twist 223 barrel.
They hold together in a 1/9 twist barrel and are devastating on critters.
Owning booth a 270 and a 264 WM, in my rifles the 270 is the better choice with 24" barreled rifles.
It has been difficult to get much over 3000 fps with the 264 pushing 140 gr. NBT with a variety of powders.
My 270 pushes a 130 gr. NBT at a screaming 3234 fps with RL-17, while the 264 burns...
I have a 7x57 rifle built by ACGG member Larry Brace on a Husqvarna action with a 24" barrel.
Lapua 170 gr. factory ammo delivers 2632 fps out of my rifle.
My hunting load is 50.0 gr. of RL-17 pushing a 140 NBT downrange at 3070 fps.
With modern powders operating at modern pressures this century...
I was in the 280/280 AI fan since the late 70's and never owned a 270 until 2022 when I picked up a plastic stocked M700 in 270 at a local pawn shop at a bargain price. My thought at the time was that it would be a loaner rifle or a truck gun, but since ammunition was scarce and I had bullets...
They need to make a "Trojan Horse" drone that has a massive self-destruct mechanism that is triggered when it is attacked in flight.
Paint a giant "Don't Fark with Me" message in Russian on the fuselage as fair warning, then wait for the rats to come to the cheese.
Long ago I would hang around the benchrest shooting crowd and gather barrels that were "shot out" for next to nothing. Stolle Panda tenons are the same thread pitch as Winchester M70, but slightly longer. While a 1/14 twist in a 20" barrel is out of balance for the 6mm-284, it was a laser with...
If you can get the 175 SMK HP version up to 2600 fps that will be supersonic at 1000 yds.
The 175 TMK will be supersonic at 1000 yards with an inital velocity of 2500 fps due to their higher BC.
The 175 SMK bullets are not too heavy for the 7.62x51, as they were specifically designed for that cartridge. The 168 SMK falls apart as soon is it goes subsonic and you could see that in the 1000 yd targets. The 173 M118 bullet was a solid performer, but the dies were worn out and production...
If I saw cases grow that much, the first thing I would think of would be a headspace issue.
How easy do the fired cases chamber? How pronounced is the swell forward of the extractor groove?
The first thing I would suggest would be to neck size the cases and see how easily neck sized loaded round...
Being an excellent stock card driver doesn't equate to always having sound judgement.
Clearly had this happened to a commoner, the outcome would have been different.
If the barrel couture is up to it, I'd send it to JES and have him rebore to a 5 grove cut rifle in 375 H&H.
If you want a little more 375 Zing, I have a 375 Ackley Improved and a 375 Weatherby reamer and I could drop them off at his shop to cut your chamber.
I wish he did 8mm rebores as I have...
I've been meaning to do this for a long time and finally loaded up some ammo to answer my nagging questions. I'm using 13.2 gr. 300 MP with the 40 gr. Nosler Varmageddon at 2926 fps out of a 22" barrel in my 22 Hornet with excellent results. Trying 300MP in my CPC reworked Ruger 77/22 VHZ 22...
I'd say that the observation is due to variance in the ammo and the rifle is fine. The head to shoulder length on factory ammo varies by manufacturer. This it to accommodate different chamber dimensions present in rifles the ammo could be used in. An RCBS Precision Case micrometer would easily...
The mount of RL25 you can load depends on the brass and the LOA of the cartridge needed to be ~.040" short of the rifling or the mag length if shorter.
RP brass weighs 205 gr , FC weights 204 gr. , and WW is only 194 gr. , so the actual powder capacity of the WW brass is about 1 gr. more RL-25...
I'm shooting the 150 LRAB out of a Remington 700 with a 24" barrel and RL26 will push them downrange at just under 3100 fps.
Loads that shoot at or slightly over MOA at .050" to .025" off the rifling scatter the bullets into 2+ MOA groups when seated near or into the rifling.
Don't have any of...
