    338 Alaskan Range report

Looking good so far! shoot me a pm if you like, I do most of my load testing at the city range. Have a magnetospeed thats really slick to use out there, you could borrow it or we could get together and do some shooting, I have a couple desert spots nearby for some longer range practice or...

What & where did you draw this year?

NM fork antlered deer rifle(mulies and coues in my unit, can take either), muzzleloader cow elk, late season rifle mule deer at my brothers place in CO. Will buy the boy a left over youth cow tag, may do private land barbary again this year, if the quail hunting is as good as it was last year...

    Summer time blues

My little huntin buddy Mckenna invited me to go oryx hunting with her and her dad the other day, couldn't say no to that. It's been a little on the warm side for hunting but sure beats sweating at the house! Saw plenty of oryx, even a couple very nice specimens, these things can be tough and...

.300 Savage 130 grain TSX or TTSX for elk?

velocity is your friend with the barnes, when in doubt go lighter and faster, that little 130 will surprise you in the penetration dept. keep in mind that he's loading for a 700, he should be able to come right close to a 308 with a strong action and that barrel length, I have had no trouble...

    25 WSSM

Good to hear, that stuff is a little skinny here as well, what do you think about 223 wssm brass? Was thinking I could get a 243 wssm neck die with tapered expander and form it up in two steps?

    25 WSSM

I know its a long shot, looking for loaded ammo or (preferably) brass. None to be found hereabouts, hoping to get a browning up and running for a buddies wife to take deer hunting this fall, currently have ZERO rounds for this rig, any tips, leads or help would be apreciated, thanks guys

.300 Savage 130 grain TSX or TTSX for elk?

They work very well. I have had good luck with both IMR 3031 and 4064 with the 130 ttsx in 300 savage. Kids have killed elk, deer and javalina with them. We are using an old remmy 722 with 24" barrel and getting pretty impressive velocities with it.

    AZ Regs

reading through it now, AZ coues is on my list of things to do, hunt them here in NM but tag situation is erratic at best, I can see arizona from where I hunt , might as well throw my hat in and chase them on the other side of the fence too

.300 Savage and 125-130 grain bullets

They work great. I run them a little hotter with 3031 out of a 24" barreled remington. Kids have killed deer, javelina and antelope with em. If you crank up the velocity a little the 130 tipped tsx is a great bullet in this rig, my oldest boy put one lengthwise through a cow elk at 350 yards...

    New 240 Weatherby - Favorite Loads/help

Think you're going to like that round. Pretty easy to load for once you get your seating depth figured out. I had good luck with supreme 780 which I believe has been discontinued, and 95-100 grain partitions, my mark v does not care for boat tail bullets or magpro. Currently using power pro...

    PRVI brass?

Seems like good stuff, it's all I use in my 6.5x55, I buy their 120 grain match ammo for killin rocks and cactus and reload from there, haven't worn any out yet.

    B&C New World Record

Nothing "unhealthy" about that buck brother! Taken on the governors tag, harvested late june or july probably, all our southern pronghorns look like tick ridden yard sheep in the summer time. Seen some pics of that buck from the side, sexy mass, congrats to the hunter!

    .243 with 100gr bullet

100 grain interlocks and 4350 was the go to load for my dad and I in the 243 for years. Primarily hunted whitetails and hogs back then, never had any complaints. Personally I had better luck with the 100 grain hornady than the nosler solid base or remington core lokts of equal weight, had core...

    Leupold VXR scopes?

I have the 3-9x40 with the fire dot. The scope is extremely bright and clear, it's the only 30mm I own and I can see why guys are liking them. The brightness control for the fire dot is user friendly and fairly easy to manipulate in the field. While doing range work i turned the fire dot off...

How often do you clean a rifle bore?

Shooting jacketed bullets, most of my rifles can go a long time between cleaning. My 700's in particular seem to need to be filthy in order to act right, the exception being the 338. I shoot barnes bullets in the big guy and need to scrub the heck out of it every 15-20 rounds to keep it tight...

    Cow tag, in the timber...

If I have a cow tag that means I'm packing either a disc elite or tc omega, 110 grains blackhorn and 300 grain nosler mz. At 40 yards I'm gonna shoot, the moss covered limb in the foreground is basically pointing to my spot. Haven't used the nosler on game yet but have used similar designs on...

Tell me about...... New Mexico. Finalized. Moving there !!

We are a draw state, bear and cougar are over the counter for most areas though there are some draw areas for bear. Good thing is there are no preference points here, everybody has the same chance to draw every year. Draw odds are pretty steep for the more famous units but it can be done...

Rifle Recommendation For A 10 Year Old

243 is a great deer rig, I vote for the 100 grain partition, kills like lightning. My kids love it, heck I'm 41 and its still one of my favorite rounds to hunt deer and antelope with. That being said, the deer situation in new mexico sucks, my oldest boy and several of the youth hunters I help...
