I second Bruce, 58.0 gr of RL22 is what mine liked before it became an Improved.
JD,
I'm thinking that you need to start thinking of what you'll take for that 280.
Tom,
In your first reply on this thread you said you would go with the 150 Accubond. I don't think Nosler has announced one yet. I wish they would. Do you have your wires crossed or do you know something I don't?
Currently hunting with the 140 AB's in my 7mm Wby. 70 gr of RL22 & 71 gr of IMR 7828 pushes them to 3000 fps from my 24" Encore. I would not even hesitate to whack an Elk with this load!!!
I could easily go up 5-8 more grains but for now I won't. During the summer I plan to work up some hotter...
The Accubonds cannot be beat. I don't see any of us driving them so fast so as to turn them inside out. They hit their mark accurately, expand, stay together, penetrate & exit. What more do we need. I would not use them on a Cape Buffalo or Elephant.....but then, I have yet to meet either of...
Tom,
That was a pretty good treatise. The last line was great, really made me laugh. I shoot a 7mm Weatherby in an Encore that weighs 8lbs scoped and loaded. It is 38" long. I would rather be shooting a .280 Remington. After many rounds fired and loaded thru my Encore barrels I prefer belted or...
Leupold is #1 and has no peer for the blue collar man.
The Nikon's have half the mil thickness in their barrel tubes as Leupold. They will bend. Seen it.
I quit fretting about barrel length after I bought my off-the-shelf rifle to shoot off-the-shelf ammo in 280 Remington for a go-to gun when all my other scrap iron is in the shop. I shoot cheap Remington Express ammo in it, 150 gr Core-Lokts. $11.99 a box.
After the shots I made with that...
I have not personally whacked an Elk yet. I have smacked a Whitetail and an Axis with the 140 Accubond. Very accurate. Entrance wound was bullet diameter and exit was silver dollar diameter. Both shoulder shots anchored them.
Were I to already have a good PT load worked up, I'd use it...
Rem Man,
You sure do get a lot of flack from these guys on this board. I have enjoyed your responses & I really was jealous of your Spike Elk picture. I looked at that and said to myself, "I'd give nearly anything just to be able to sit on that same hill."
Tom,
Can you qualify your 150 gr suggestion. Once I obtained my 7mm Wby I thought I really wanted to shoot 150 Pt's in it for a do all load. After great consternation I settled on the 160's.
