I agree with 300WSM. There may be a lot of "Good" bullets out there but it is disappointing when you've went to all the effort to develop a load that performs the way you want it to just to find that they have discontinued one of your componets. I apologize to all the fans of the Nosler BT but I...
We have a local Tractor Supply but it doesn't carry shooting supplies, I wish they would. Our only local options are Ace Hardware or 30 miles to a Hardware Hank, which is limited. The next best option is to drive 100 miles to a Scheels.
I'm like most of you and try to pick up components as they dribble into the market. There are somethings I still can't find but am keeping my eyes open. It seems that most things dribbling out are only in stock less than 48 hrs., some powders are there longer.
CL, Have you tried to anneal new brass and using the COW method to fireform to your chamber first? If not, I would start there and then go to FL sizing using a .002" bump.
I picked Speer when they're available. Their bullets shoot well in just about everything I've tried them in, they have proven to be good on game, and they are cost effective. That said, I'm not a purist and also use Sierra, Hornady, Barnes, Nosler, and Swift.
Ahlman's, a gun shop in Minnesota, would take worn 740 and 742s and convert them to slide actions. I'm not sure if they still do or if that market has dried up.
Before I replaced it I had an aftermarket blower on my John Deere 265 Lawn Tractor. Anything hard would shear the pin, like a hunk of ice or hard snow. It was a poor design with only a single shear pin for the auger. I don't have large rocks in my driveway so I also replaced it with a grade 8...
I know what it's like when your snow removal equipment breaks down or won't start, so I feel for you. We received 10" this storm but know many areas were hit worse.
I can remember when Shilen, Douglas, Hart and McGowen were concidered the premium barrels to use. Since that time there have been so many more makers that have come to light that also make quality barrels. It has gotten to the point that it has become personal preference of which to use. It all...
The first thing that I would do is to get them appraised and the second would be to sell them individually or through a gun auction house. If you try to sell to one of the big sporting goods retailers you will most likely only receive about 40% of what they are worth. That is just my two cents...
I was just at the Scheels in Sioux City, IA last weekend and they have Ramshot Hunter on the shelf. I picked up 2#s and am going to work with it in my 7X57 with 140s. Big Game works well in my son's 17-204 and I plan to also give it a try it in my 17 Remington.
I will give up a little...
Maybe this is why the Enduron powders have been discontinued. I would consider finish pulling the bullets, dump the powder, snap off the primers, and run your brass through an ultrasonic cleaner. It should be good as new.
Guy, I'm glad to hear you are doing well following your heart attack. I had heart attack while out turkey hunting 23 years ago April 15. It required a double by-pass but have not had an issue since and it hasn't slowed me down, other than I'm now 72. Do what they tell you and don't be afraid to...
If you want a gloss finish on a new scope there are guys that are specializing in Cerakoting optics. I have one that I'm trying to decide if it is worth it or not. It going on a Ruger #1 so I'm thinking yes.
