129g hornady interbond vs 129 nosler ablr

Long throat? Barnes bullets usually shoot well with a long jump. Swift Sciroccos are rumored to like a big jump, as well. I've heard mixed reports about the Interbond and ABLR, but don't have enough experience myself to say whether or not they tend to shoot well, or even better, with a long...

    Real .243 Win Velocities

The way I see it, if 42 grains of H4350 is safe behind a 105 in a 6 Creed, and a .243 has a hair more case capacity than the Creed, then your load is probably pretty low. I would tend to think 43-43.5 should be doable, based on the .243's I own/have owned. In fact, 43.5 grains of H4350 behind a...

    280 R.E.M., 22" barrel

Well, if you're really counting ounces, you could swap that 3.5-10 for a vx2 3-9x40 and save 1.6 ounces, or a 2-7x33 and save 2.3 ounces. Chopping a couple inches off the barrel would save an ounce or two at the expense of 40-50 fps. I don't know what BC stock you have on the rifle, but their...

    30-06: Case Capacity Comparison

All the 30-06 interest of late had me wondering, so I measured the case capacity on some of my brass. All of these have been fired in my rifle, a 2008 Win70 Featherweight. They will have higher capacity than unfired brass and not necessarily the same capacity as brass fired in a different...

    RL23 and RL26 in 30-06

Also, thanks a bunch for running all those, DrMike. It's always interesting to me to be able to look at those simulations and compare the numbers.

    RL23 and RL26 in 30-06

Don't totally discount RL23. It has the same "technology" as AR Comp and RL16, which so far look to be really temperature stable. I'd place a small wager that in general, RL23 and RL16 are probably a little more resistant to temperature effects than 26 and 17 in most appropriate applications...

    RL23 and RL26 in 30-06

My rifle didn't like 180's with anything when I tried in the past. It does like 200's with RL17, though. I've never seen a Quickload, or any load data for that matter, but I'd think RL16 should be damn good in a 30-06, too. It's supposed to be very temp stable, similar in burn rate to 4350...

    RL23 and RL26 in 30-06

RL26 is a pretty dense powder. That's why it works in places where no one would have previously thought such a slow-burner would work. I've never used RL23, but it's supposedly bulkier. Even though they are close in burn rate, 61 grains of RL22 is a rumored "good load" in the '06, while 61...

    .243 Win. Reloader 23 and 105s.....

I haven't seen anything weird myself, yet, but I don't doubt you. I have tried Retumbo, H1000, 7828, RL22, RL26, RL17, and 4350 with 105's in the two 243's I've owned. I never found anything that would group as well over 3K as I got closer to 2900. If you get good groups at 2970, I'd be pretty...

    .243 Win. Reloader 23 and 105s.....

I've had better luck getting the two .243's I've had to be accurate around 2900-2950 with 105's. And one rifle wouldn't shoot the hpbt, but liked the amax. If you want to go over 3K fps, RL17 or 26 should do it at less pressure, according to Quickload. I ran RL17 all the way up to 3100 in one...

    280 R.E.M., 22" barrel

A long time ago, I decided that it looked as though the 280 was good for about 150 fps over the 7-08, and the 7RM was good for another 150 fps or so over the 280. These days, with all the newer powders, I'm not so sure the gaps are that large. And I'm growing less convinced that they matter...

    280 R.E.M., 22" barrel

I like the .280, but just to add to your questioning.... A 22" 7-08 should be capable of 2850-2950 with a 140. Maybe over 3000 if your rifle likes RL17. And I used to shoot the 162 a-max in mine at over 2700 with 46 grains of RL17. It might have been even closer to 2750. And DrMike ran a QL...

Reloder 16, 125g Partiton, 6.5 Creedmoor load data

Did you only load 44 grains, or so you have some loaded up lower? For safety's sake, I like to load up one each and work my way up to whatever my max velocity is, then try for groups after I've found max. I'd personally probably load up one each at 42, 42.5, 43, 43.5, and 44 and see how fast...

    190 gr. ABLR in 30-06?

My comment about skipping to the 210 is based only on the fact that my particular rifle has a preference toward 200's and 208's. It shoots them more accurately than 180's, and not much slower. Someone ran a Quickload for both the 190 and 210 ABLR bullets in a 30-06 at one point. I might have...

    190 gr. ABLR in 30-06?

Well, it seems like most of the 30-06 shooters on this site tend to stick with, A. Bullets in the traditional 150-180 range, and, B. The time-tested bullets that they've already had years of success with. Another reason for any potential low usage of that bullet in a 30-06 could be that not...

7 Mashburn Super 195 Berger H1000 and Retumbo

If you get an elk with any bullet out of the Mashburn, I'd like to see your thoughts on how it compares to the .338 bullets.

7 Mashburn Super 195 Berger H1000 and Retumbo

The old 162 a-max did alright in jugs at 2700 and change from my old 7-08. It was similar to the highly regarded 120 BT at over 3K. I think they both got three jugs and had some core and jacket left. I don't think I ever ran those 162's through my old 7RM, though. I'm betting 3K would have made...

6.5 Grendel in a bolt action

Thank you, kind sir. Idk enough about Quickload to understand why people seem to think it isn't accurate with this stubby little cartridge, but it's prediction seems to fall pretty much right in line with factory ammo ballistics at the 52,000 psi limit. I'm hoping this little cartridge gets...
