Ha! No kidding. Big bullets with lots of powder gets expensive.
I remember Ridgway very well. We had a warehouse in Montrose and Telluride was in my company's territory. I also drove through there several times for my own recreational purposes. If one can find good work in Ridgway, that has to...
Where in southern Colorado? I used to live in Salida. The best gun shop I've ever been to is located there, and I'd just about guarantee that they have RL26 in stock. Also, the best shooting range I've ever been to is about 12 minutes north on 285 towards Buena Vista. Part of my work territory...
I'm not trying to sound like an asshole, but I think something went wrong either with your chrono or your writing down the readings. 2930 and 2936 fps is faster than Nosler lists a 338 RUM pushing that bullet, and that's with another 20 grains or so of powder. 2730 and 2736 makes a lot more...
If you really meant 2930 at 68.5, then did you also really mean 2778 at 69? It's not uncommon to lose velocity in shot-to-shot string with a small sample size, but if you lost 150 fps while adding a half grain of powder, something is wrong.
RL26 is not too slow in a .338 Win Mag, unless you're...
You can't get to 2800 without any pressure signs. You already have pressure signs at 2730 fps.(I'm assuming that was a typo and you meant 2730 when you typed 2930)
You're obviously welcome to do as you please, but keep in mind that people smarter than me have said that common pressure signs...
This little cartridge isn't too popular in a bolt action.... yet. But I think it's on the way. My best guess is that a 140 at 2400 fps and a 129/130 at a shade over 2500 would correlate closely to my 123 at 2600 and change.
You're the man, DrMike.
I'm probably going to play with this bullet myself this year. For what it's worth, my rifle took 26 grains to get to 3000 with the Hornady 68 bthp at 2.335". It was definitely compressed. Velocity without compression was easier with H4895.
I bought a Howa Mini in 6.5 Grendel back at the end of 2016. It's the 20" heavy-barreled model. It's a handy little rifle that tips the scales at barely over 6 lbs before scope, after a couple hours with an orbital sander to slim and lighten the stock. I haven't gotten out shooting nearly as...
I've never hunted on them, but I've used snowshoes several times while hiking in CO. Ive used Atlas, which were ok. I own some Tubbs, which again, are ok. But I'll add yet another input that MSR snowshoes really are the gold standard among serious back country hikers. Some people really prefer...
I meant more along the lines of that extra potential 200 fps or whatever and its effect on trajectory. Again, while I've plinked at steel targets and clay pigeons at long ranges, I've never shot at an animal at anything resembling long range.
There comes a time when holdover must be accounted...
Touché.
But which one to pick?!? Seriously, which would you run? As someone who's demonstrated their knowledgeability over the years I've been reading this forum and who personally uses the 30-06 a good deal, I'd value your input on which you would run.

This is all well and good. And I have always had a fondness for the 30-06. But Bryan Litz has tested that 200 grain Accubond to come up with a real-life BC around .524, if I'm remembering correctly. He also found that a 6.5mm 129 Hornady Interbond was at .518, unless I'm remembering incorrectly...
As to loads I've already tried....
I started with 180's because that always seemed like the "classic" bullet for a 30-06 in my mind. I have been aware since before I was 10 years old that 2800 fps is a realistic upper threshold in this combination. So that's what I wanted this rifle to shoot- a...
