I have been down the new bullet path numerous times, the Speer GS, the TSX, the TTSSXX, the Game King, but I always go back to the PT, or the newer AB. They have worked for me for decade after decade, and have no interest in changing, Besides when you already have an inventory, new components...
I have a single stage Herters press that was new in the early 60's and still gets the job done, I have been loading for the 300 WM since 75. A wonderful cartridge and great elk hunting cartridge.
JD all of those attributes are also available in the 06 with even heavier bullets and a little better overall performance on the top end. Out of the three ( and I owned them all). I prefer the 280 AI, it's just the next step up.

Long ago and in a far away place (oops wrong story) I also had five, a 03 Custom , 721 Remington, and two post 64 Winchester Mannlichers . I now I have a Springfield original, arsenal rebuild, the 721 is a 35 Whelen, and the 03 custom is still with me. As others have said you can't have to many.
The 280 AI, gives you 200 fps , and 300 more ft pounds of energy out to 500 yards, than does the standard 280. They both weigh the same, can carry 4 rounds in the magazine, but one gives you a little more. I call my AI a light 7mm mag, as it's performance is slightly less than that of the 7mm...
