    Remington 7600 270 Winchester

I stopped at my LGS on the way to work this morning. I don't get to stop as often as I used to so I do occasionally to see what's new. I immediately saw a Remington 7600 on the shelf and the tag said it was a 270. It was in really good shape so I filled out the paperwork and picked it up after...

6.5 140 Solid Base weight variances

I made a range trip yesterday with family to get rifles ready for our deer season that opens this Saturday. I have to say I was disappointed in both the 308 and 6.5 Solid Base accuracy. Both shot in the 1.5-1.75 realm, and this was from proven rifles. The ballistic numbers were good so I can...

    Experiences with 8MM's

That's great! I have some of the 180's loaded in 325 WSM to test drive on whitetail in our upcoming season. I chrono'ed them at just over 2900 at the muzzle and shooting .65ish. Ron

6.5 140 Solid Base weight variances

I didn't want to hijack JD's thread on the 308s so I started this one. I loaded some 6.5 Creedmoors using the seconds I got from SPS. As with the 308s, I weighed a handful and found one that was under weight at 139.9 and the rest were over weight at 140. 5, .6, and .7. These are seconds so I...

    308 165 Solid Base Seconds

I received my order of 6.5, 7mm, and 308 caliber seconds the other day. I loaded a test batch of 308's and the handful I weighed seemed to average about a half grain light across the board. As long as they shoot accurately, I really don't care about that, and I doubt any deer that gets in the...

Don't like it but do I keep it

I don't have any rifles in this category. I think my oldest stepson hit the nail on the head when he said that while a rifle that shoots 1.5 inch groups will kill deer, we have become spoiled by the rifles shooting sub-MOA and it's become difficult to like one that doesn't. The exceptions, of...

    260 Remington

I checked my Hodgdon Annual Manual and for a Nosler 130 Accubond it shows a starting load of 45.5/2538 fps and a max load at 50.0C/2788. This should give you some parameters to work with. +1's to the posts about the 120 bullets. I started my wife on a 260 loaded with 120 BTs and she killed a...

    260 Remington

Jim, the Gamechanger and Tipped Gameking are the exact same bullet. Sierra refers to them both ways for some reason. Ron

    260 Remington

I don't know where all you've looked but I checked the Hodgdon Annual Manual and the Sierra manual but neither shows that bullet weight as being compatible with StaBall 6.5. Hodgdon first shows it with a 142 Sierra Matchking. I don't have QuickLoad so I can't look there for you. Ron

    Vortex customer service

This is the first time I've had to return anything to them for service. However, several years ago I bought a used scope in a pawn shop. It had no box or accessories so I emailed Vortex, explained the situation, and asked if it were possible to buy the lense covers. They replied they would be...

    Vortex customer service

I had a Vortex Ranger 1300 rangefinder that I bought new and had used for many years in all conditions. It was a great unit and I was extremely happy with it. However, when I was putting my gear together and checking it over in preparation for our early antlerless season, I discovered the...

Anyone ever try .358” 200 grain FTX on deer loaded in the 35 Whelen?

I didn't shoot any deer with them (Accubonds were more accurate in my rifle) but I loaded and shot some for groups. They weren't terrible, just not the best. Ron

    Old round nose boolits

I wouldn't be too worried about a speed limit as far as bullet integrity is concerned. If you were planning to shoot out a ways you would need to be aware the round nose design won't fly nearly was well as pointed/tipped bullets. However, if you're talking about 100-150 yds, find an accurate...

Picked up a couple of new rifles this weekend

Thanks to everyone for their kind comments and information. I loaded up some test rounds using the Sierra 107 hpbts and RL-16 last night. Hoping the weather cooperates so I can try them out this weekend. Ron

Picked up a couple of new rifles this weekend

This past weekend I picked up two rifles, one sorta planned, the other not at all. On Friday, I was off for hunting and after I killed my doe and took it to the processors, my oldest stepson and I stopped at a gunshop to look around. I found as Savage Hog Hunter .308 and ended up buying it. I...

    2024 Hunting Season

This was the opening day of Missouri's early antlerless season. It's extraordinarily warm for this time of year but was in the low 50's about 0600. I got to the stand and didn't see or hear anything except squirrels and birds until right at 0800 when two does appeared. They were the same size...

Sierra 35 cal. 200 gr. RN

I stopped at the Sierra outlet store yesterday and they had some of these on the availability list. First time I've seen them in a very long time. So, if anyone has been looking for some, check with your favorite distributors/ store because they should be appearing sometime soon. Ron
