Thanks for all the feedback. Seems like whatever bullet I pick I can’t go wrong. Imagine that, I think that was the intent of the design of the Creedmoor.
I guess my one question would be for those of you that have run the lighter/shorter 6.5 bullets out of the Creedmoor. Is there any issues...
I’ve been with Creed now for a year and yes I’m a fan. Not crazy like where I’ve sold everything else but it is very fun to shoot. Accurate, minimal recoil and, Michigan allows hunting coyotes at night with a center fire rifle.269” or less. I’ve loaded/shot 143’s,140’s and 129’s all in hunting...
I agree. I had a beautiful Rem 700 CDL 7mm 08 and my favorite load was a 145 Speer BTSP with a full charge of W760 and a CCI 250. Sold to a guy for his kid like a fool. At least the kid got a hell of a rifle. It would put three in one hole and I never had a deer take a step. Probably a dozen...
Had a friend at work go out to Wyoming and get a rather large Tom. Sounds and looks fun. I’ve also heard that they were good eating. I love running bear and coon with hounds and imagine chasing a cat would be just as fun. Some day maybe.

I’m working on 129 ABLR’s right now for the Creedmoor and, will just suck it up with the weight of the 280AI. I guess I’ll just lose a couple pounds off myself before season and make sure to take my morning constitutional before I go out. That should lighten my load. I figure if I plan ahead...
I couldn’t imagine a better black bear pistol. I had a Taurus Tracker SS 44 Mag that I loaded 240 gr JSP’s for. I believe they were mid range loads and they performed well on bear and deer at pistol range (under 50 yards). A 45 Colt loaded with 300 grain bullets would make an ideal woods pistol...
My only input for the 45 Long Colt is.....Don’t go chasing 454 loads. The 45 Long Colt is quite capable of doing good things at 45 Long Colt pressure. In fact hard cast bullets perform better at sensible velocities rather than “as hard as you can push them “ speeds.
I know this is old but it’s a good topic and why not. I’m starting to screw around with my 357 again and have found it rather versatile for hunting small game and deer. I’ve found a decent and accurate load for small game that’s pleasant to shoot. I run about 3.7 grains of Red Dot under a 110...
LOL. You’ll only do that once without ear plugs. I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and my dad and uncles grew up just after the Great Depression. Their methods of harvesting deer were opportunistic to say the least. I recall a 270 being shot through the camp bathroom window from...
Funny. I’ve done a little firearms teaching years back with my old road partner and also taught some self defense classes to women. Best part was that they were brutally honest about what they didn’t know and actually paid attention to what you told them. I also found that they were easier to...
I’ve used Winchester 158 grain on deer at reasonable distance with good results. As in all dead that I shot and about 10-30 yards. Speer made a 170 grain FP gold dot a few years ago that was really good but haven’t been able to find it for awhile. I plan on doing some serious loading for my 357...
Some very good points and all well stated. I’m with those who aren’t much on high fives or excessive celebration. I’m not going to condemn those that do as everyone is different in expressing their feelings. What I won’t tolerate is those that don’t respect the animal or kill and do idiotic...
Another thing to add to the confusion. I recall when I was younger my dad owning and having issues with his Winchester M100 308. Due to it being a semi automatic 308 and the time frame when he owned it, I believe the powder he used was a faster ball powder that burned dirty. He couldn’t find a...
Good to hear. I’ve always liked the Scnabel fore end and feel of the featherweights when I’ve fondled them. They look nice and seem appropriately priced. I seem to have many irons in the fire right now with many rifles I want but this will be on my short list.
I did see the Christensen Ridge Line. It looks really nice and just under $2K. A possibility for sure. Didn’t see anything in 280AI from Seekins though. Maybe I missed it.
At 9.7 lbs. I’m sure it’s all the little things. It’s wearing a standard weight (for a Hawkeye) 24” barrel from E.R. Shaw SS. Likely some there. The stock is 2 lbs. Some there. Scope is a SWFA 6X MOA quad in aluminum Vortex rings and sitting on a Warne 20 MOA rail. Some there so it all adds...
