I’ve shot my Uncles old Sears M70 270 Win. And it’s a very nice rifle considering it was a budget rifle in it’s day. I owned a M70 push feed in 223 WSSM and couldn’t pedal it fast enough.
I find the lines and feel of the featherweight to be about ideal for a classic rifle. I know they’re...
I’ve always wanted but never had. About the time I was in my full swing gun buying years Winchester rifles were of sub par quality and were far behind Remington and others. I’m seeing some good things said about the current M70 and it’s a CRF that supposed to be pretty smooth. I’m itching for...
From my experience with Barnes years ago with the blue coated XLC’s you want to run a step lighter than what you traditionally use with lead core bullets. The mono’s are longer and have more bearing surface for starters as it takes more material to equal the weight. So, a 130 mono will likely be...
Nice. That load will cover a lot of bases. I love the 280 and believe it is one of the most over looked cartridges ever. I have my dads and it’s why I built a 280 Improved. I often wonder how things would have shook out if the ‘06 would have fired a 7mm slug to start with.
I have only a wee bit of experience with ELDX bullets. 143’s in my 6.5 Creedmoor and 162’s in my 280 AI. The 6.5 did well on a good sized, weight wise buck. Exited with good blood trail and expired within 15 yards. Looking at the inside of the chest cavity it looked like a lot of trauma but...
I’m surprised by your results with the Hornady 165’s. I always had good luck with them and they never ran far. A lot of DRT’s with ballistic tips though. Favorite for deer were Speer 150gr. Mag Tips. Good bear bullet too.
I might give RL26 a try. RL17 is my staple now with 143’s. Good to see a jug test on them. From what I had experienced they seemed a bit fragile. Dead deer but blown up and separated from the jacket. That was all of two total though that did that.

Oh trust me. He was over two miles back but I didn’t drag him two miles. I did drag him over a quarter mile over fairly rough terrain to the nearest passable skidder trail. Then my dads Yamaha Viking got involved. A winch and four low helped. Had I gone much further on foot I would have...
Truck Driver/JD I may go that route with the stock. Put a Hogue pillar bedde stock on it to replace the wood without checking out the weight and didn’t improve squat. My frugality got me again. And, I will likely stay SAAMI spec on the Whelen as the AI is only a consideration for headspace...
I’ve alway been told to torque Ruger bolt actions at Gorilla, ape, monkey front to back.LOL. For the front screw what size is it to replace with a Allen or torx head and where can I get quality ones. I’d like to do same with the trigger guard screws. Just don’t like slot head screws.

I’m settled on three calibers for my permanent stable. A 6.5 Creedmoor T3 superlite SS (on it’s way and replacing my Savage 6.5) This will be my primary deer hunting rifle and will handle my lighter duties as Michigan allows .269” and smaller for night hunting coyotes. I’m having an ‘81...
I’ve looked at and handled the Ruger 1911 variant in 10 mm at the local Cabelas and it feels OK and would likely serve the purpose well enough but, it just doesn’t feel as good in the hands. I’ve shot Kimber 45’s and know they shoot and that familiarity and confidence is what will sell me on the...
I look at it kinda like engines. Because I’m old school..... I look at comparing a 350 Chevy small block and a 454 big block. You can (try) get the same horsepower out of both but you’ll be doing it a lot easier with the big block although burning more gas.
No expert but I’ve heard all sorts of reasons for both. I’ve heard that body taper and gentle shoulders have been better for function and feeding especially when in regards to under stress and in semi automatic and full automatic rifles. Oddly the 6.5 Creedmoor has been brought onboard by...
Agreed. Guy nailed it. I own a 6.5 Creedmoor and love it. Accurate and very pleasant to shoot. It’s my first venture down the 6.5 trail but have always wanted a 260 Remington since it’s inception. I think the 260 is a fine cartridge and likely bore all the growing pains for the Creedmoor and...
Thanks JD338. I had similar experience when I shot my buddies 45. I put the entire mag into one hole from the 15 yd mark. I think it was one of the compact carry models. I’d suspect a longer slide would make it a little easier to shoot accurately even in 10 mm. I’m planning on having this as my...
Just looking to see who has one and your experience with the pistol. I’m looking into a 1911 style 10 mm for a retirement gift for myself. I have just over three years to go to figure it out. My reasons for a 1911 10mm are simple. I like the way a 1911 packs. Even in a full size...
