I can’t believe this actually got asked because I JUST tuned a Ba factor in my 8lb keg of RL 26 at 0.3476. This lot made 2890 FPS with 180 Partitions from a 22” Model 70 Extreme Weather 30-06. 64.1 grains at 3.316” OAL or 2.696 base to ogive. H2O capacity of 67.98 grains (5 case average). I...
Yeah dude let it ride. Also if you’re using quickload you can tune it now to get a better estimate of your pressure. Edit the overall length field, the case capacity (measure 5 cases w water fill and get an average), then adjust the Ba factor on the powder until it matches your speeds with your...
Did you ever notice any stiff bolt lift? If the cratering is all you noticed you probably have some room left. The primer still has a good radius, and there’s no ejector mark (assuming you’re shooting a push feed). Another thing you can look for is loose primer pockets by putting a primer on the...
In the case of whitetail deer and most other cervids over here, the young are able to survive their first winter. Most mammals evolved to spawn in the spring to give their young ample time to mature enough to survive their first winter.
Their chances of survival go up if this first winter is...
Are you doing the 10 shot load development method? If not, google that and watch the video by 6.5 guys. It kinda sounds like that’s what you’re doing but just making sure. That way you’ll find your velocity node that is also likely to group well.
On the case, the first sign you’ll likely see...
I’d keep pushing it. You won’t get enough powder in the case to really damage anything in one shot. You’ll most likely just get a stiff bolt lift and then you’ll know you’re there. The speed is the only thing you can measure, so use that as your proxy for pressure. If the speed is still low...
Same here. 2925 FPS with a 143gr ELD-X and 24” barrel. Using about as much 26 as I can fit in the case. And my numbers were right in line with what QuickLoad predicted so I figure it’s right about being too slow for 7mm08. Can’t get it above 42k PSI

I thought y’all were off your rockers saying it was too slow after seeing how great 26 is in the Creedmoor but quickload concurs. Can’t get enough powder in the case.
There are a litany of guys pushing 140s to 2900+ in the Creedmoor which is similar in case capacity so I’m kinda stumped why 26...
Everyone is really high on Reloader 26 as well for...well everything. 6.5 shooters love it, 30-06 shooters love it, magnum guys love it. I’m about to do some work up using 26 and a T3x Creedmoor and Model 70 .280 Rem so we’ll see if the hype is justified. If it pans out I will be loading some...
Turn down a legal hunt? What in tarnation? I would hunt in another man’s underwear if I had the chance. You’re damn right I’d use his gun too.

Any bullet will do 300 yards easily so I would change your focus to cover a possible sub 100 yard shot. Those soft long range bullets are much more likely to fail at close range than 200+. I would opt for a partition, regular accubond, or a solid like a GMX or Barnes bullet. My Tikka 6.5 Creed...
Man I really want to like ELD-X for the BC and price but I just can’t get past the explosive stories. Maybe I missed it but at what range did you shoot your jugs?

The good thing about drop is that it’s predictable and repeatable and you will be able to compensate for it no matter which load you choose. At 400 yards if it’s 5” or 15”, it doesn’t make the shot any more difficult, you just have to know what it is through math and practice at the range. Don’t...
I’d definitely haul the .338 into the backcountry. It shoots, it’s got a composite stock, it can be beat around and dropped, etc. The FW would be a great whitetail gun in Indiana so both rifles get some action every year. 8.5lb is a good balance of light for carrying but heavy enough to not beat...
I’ve got a featherweight like yours but in .280. It wouldn’t group until I rebedded the stock and now it’s still picky but will shoot MOA with 150gr Partitions and IMR 4350 at 2950 fps. Only for about three shots because like you said the barrel heats up. It’s a great rifle though and this load...
I shoot 150gr Partitions with my 280 featherweight. 56gr IMR 4350 makes 2950fps and is just sub MOA if I let the barrel cool. I’ve used it on whitetails in Minnesota and hogs in Texas. Zero 2.5” high at 100 and you’re good on deer/pig sized vitals out to 300 yards.
