Thanks to some great load suggestions from the folks here it was a very rewarding day at the range today@ 100 yds.

I would reverse your thinking...a 100 gr Accubond screaming out of a 270 WSM will definitely "explode" against bone and field dress a small whitetail for you. Stick with the 140gr or even consider a 150...it will punch a nice hole through the deer and not expand violently and lose all its...
JD338...Cool idea and results...
But will this test have the same results through hard bone, sinew, and tough hide of a large (200lb) animal. I am doubtful...
I believe that if the 140gr & 160 gr bullets wil the aforementioned ballistics went through rib or shoulder blade the 140 would lose...
Its seems to me 2700 fps with a 160 gr Accubond at a 50 yd Whitetail buck should provide optimum expansion/penetration ballistics....no?
It should expand well but hold together better than a 140 at 2900+fps at 50 yds. Or am I interpreting things I've read here about accubonds incorrectly? I'd...
Thats what I was assuming initially... After doing some cross referencing I think I am going to try 48.0 gr of RE 19 with the 160 Accubonds and work from there...
I also have lots of 180gr early era Partitions. We used to think of that as the Premo Deer 30.06 load! I will say that overall the accubonds have produced tighter groups in my rifles...especially out at 300 yds. But my gut tells me to stick with the NPTs.
I am not sure...but I think my buddies were all Shooter's Pro Shop 2nds...mine also were. They say they are just as sound as the #1s.
My Antelope was quartering away...the 140 Accubond hit the last rib angling forward...there were three exit wounds out of the lower brisket...no bullet was...
Rainy days can be expensive to me...I have been scanning ballistics and getting the new rifle itch...
I think I'm hooked on trying a 270 WSM so here goes...I'm curious to what you educated gentlemen think.
Which .270 WSM would you purchase? :?:
I have my custom 30.06 rifle back from the gunsmith...26" bbl 0n a Wbthy mag action...B&C Medalist stock(pillar bedded) in gray spiderweb. I'll post some pics ASAP on the rifles forum. I topped it with a 3.3-10X44 Zeiss. She will be my western(Elk/Muley) rifle.
I haven't loaded for an 06 for a...
Thanks Guys...
those are my two pet loads for 7mm08...Though I haven't hunted with the Sierra bullets they have always been extremely accurate. I killed a great Antelope with a (2900 fps MV) 140gr accubond from a .280 Browning SS Stalker at 323(lazered) yds last fall in Wyo.
It...
I took a new Rem 700 CDL 7mm08 to the range today with a bunch of hopeful hand loads in RE 15 that have always been good in past 7mm08s. It was a little blustery but LongWinters and I loaded up the truck and headed out.
I topped her with a 3X9X42 Zeiss Conquest and had my Smith work the trigger...
Yes I was surprised to POP...I thought the non WBY cals were all 24" bbls. This one is definitely 26". 8)
180 Partitons at 2800 definitely rocks...thats up near the .300 Win realm. :P
BTW...it says made in Japan...I'm glad thats a good thing
Those SIG Sauers are shootin machines!
My Sako FinnBear shot 200gr SBTs under an inch with 57.5 gr of RE 22 but it had a 24" bbl.
I dont know how it will work in a 22" bbl. You may want to look up a 200gr load with something like RE 19 for a shorter bbl.
The 180s will actually have better long...
 worked a trade today....ended up with a Weatherby LazerMark in 30.06. The rifle is in new condition although it is a 1999 model.
It has a 26" barrel...should I be looking at a little slower burning powders with the long barrel? I believe this can make a a great all purpose Deer...
Thats what RoysClock was concerned about...when the petals tear off you have major loss of weight retension...I.E. If you had found the remaining core it would weigh far less than the 140 gr you started with.
I suspect the same thing happened with my Antelope...the core exiting separately from...
I too appreciate your input....the fact is that up here there is no bullet to "dig out". That leads me to believe you have a tendancy of using light to med calibers? Probably more open terrain.
Between my family and friends we have skinned and butchered 100s of game animals over the years and...
