Thank you for the input. My older daughter has been using the 125 NAB in a M70 30-06 at about 3000fps, so I feel really good about this bullet. I was leaning toward 4895, but have actually had really good success with lighter bullets in reduced loads for .270 Win with RL7.
I traded into a decent little Savage 10 Youth and would like to develop some loads for my kids to use with 125 NABs. I’d like to stick with powder that I already have, and the Nosler load data says that the below would work. I don’t need to “reduce” them much due to the light bullet, but also...
Varget and 4064 would be primo. I used A2460 in the past with a 22-250, and even though it is considered too fast it shot well for me. 55s work pretty well for that twist rate, but it was really designed around 50s.
IMR3031. Classic 30-30 powder. I’ve also done well with A2460 and lighter bullets. 4895 works for just about any rifle, and particularly well for 30-30
It was a FULL case of powder, but no problems seating the bullet. I didn’t use a drop tube, but I poured each load slowly from the pan, and it settled slightly into the neck. When I poured it faster it settled closer to the center of the neck.
25-06 has never really been on my radar, but I’ve talked to some shooters of this fine caliber lately that make me wanna try it out. I’d say a 115 or 120gr premium bullet at the velocities that it pushes them would be ideal deer medicine. I don’t really care for much lighter bullets on deer, but...
From 180gr up it would be good, but that is a FULL case, compressed load. I doubt that you could get enough powder in the case for optimal performance on lighter bullets
I have always started with the longest length that my rifle will accept (chamber or magazine, whichever is the limiting factor), then took around .010 off of that. Develop a load, then adjust length accordingly. Stay off the lands unless is a bullet designed for that and you really know what...
I’m using CCI 200s, and I was surprised that there was no discernible difference when shooting the different loads from the bench. Of course, they’re all powder puffs compared to the Tikka T3 light that I recently traded.
Yes, RL26 is a new powder from Alliant. Not a ton of data available yet, but Dr Mike graciously ran a QL for me to use for load development. This is about 125fps faster than I’ve been able to get out of I4350

I want to make sure that everyone realized that my comments weren’t meant to besmirch anyone. I’m guilty of coming across in the wrong way in person, much less online. There are many variables to this, obviously, and my feelings about ethics and preferences in hunting go beyond just the high...
I think that it still is different many times from fair chase due to genetic manipulation. The animals sometimes are not the same due to being selectively bred, sometimes like livestock, and then hunted in such a controlled environment that they no longer act natural. A natural boundary with a...
It’s funny that you mention that the pro-canned hunt comments were from younger people, as most of the ones that I know who espouse that pursuit are older and more well-to-do. The argument that I hear is something along the lines of “I’m too old to traipse all over the country,” or “I’ve paid...
