My experience (as well as my dad’s, brother’s, and several friends’) has ALWAYS been positive with the Accubond, and I really have no plan of using anything else.
The 180 goes around 2750fps; 165 goes 2950fps.
Thank you for the replies, everyone. It was a 2nd without cannelure, so I will likely use a first just in case that was a contributor.
My absolute longest shot will be 400 yards , but I’ll really probably keep it inside of 300 yards. All conditions will have to be perfect and calm, with a rock...
As some of y’all may remember, I’ll be going for my first elk hunt this October. I decided that my 30-06 was more than enough fun for elk, and got rid of my 338WM.
I’ve had a bunch of experience and success with all flavors of Accubonds in the past, from 140 .270Win - 165 .30-06, from powder...
Check OAL when switching between old and new bullets, as different age and lot # bullets may have slightly different ogives or lengths. That would be my only concern.
I’ve been using Sierra and Hornady bullets that probably predate me and they have shot just fine
Thank you. I’m thrilled with the performance. This is the reason that I’m in the camp of always wanting an exit wound. Bullets that fall to pieces without an exit wound leave less of a blood trail and could lead to not recovering an animal. Even a bullet that “always” gives DRT results may get a...
It was raining when I shot her, so I started tracking quickly. Blood trail was SUBSTANTIAL, but also on fall foliage that was wet and turning red, so tracking was not the “quick gimme” that you may expect
I’m sure that 150 NABs would be more than adequate
57gr RL17, WW brass, CCI LR primer, 165 NAB, 2950 FPS, 45 yards, no bullet recovered, 100 yard track. First animal to EVER run after I have shot it with an NAB in ANY caliber. 4.5 year old doe, 86lb dressed.
Fired from an M4 AR15 at 60 yards into my younger daughters first deer. Ran under 50yd before piling up. Raining steadily, so I can’t comment on blood trail. No bullet recovered, as it kept on going...
I have gotten .308 165 SPs of different lots from Hornady and they have drastically different ogives. My experience with Noslers have been less pronounced, but can show some difference nonetheless
Will mainly be hunting with the Savage 116 .30-06 this season: 165 NAB, WW brass, CCI 200, 57gr RL17, 2950 fps
My 10 yo daughter will be using a new load in a Win M70 .30-06 that I traded into: 125 NAB, PP brass, CCI 200, H4895 (can’t remember weight right now), 3000 fps
She may also use “‘Ole...
Yup, you're right  ... I even find myself writing it down that way at the reloading bench from time to time. Something about how my simple brain works. At least I didn't have to worry about someone misreading it and using it... that would take a little bit of primer pocket work
I hate the misfortune of the dud, but it looks like you found a load.
Try CCI 209s, 56gr I4350, and that 180gr Sierra. If it won't shoot that then try CCI209s, 57gr I430 with a 165gr bullet. If it won't shoot those then sell the rifle.
I own three 30-06's. Love the caliber, but I don't get into urination matches with people over which cartridge is best (or worst). I jut don't like a reputable group like the NRA to use false facts to drum up hits. This writer based his article on opinion and feelings (disdain for the caliber...
