I have absolute faith in the Partition, even in light for caliber weight, for deer. I have had nothing but great results. I have a pound of Varget. I'll probably start with it. Ranges will be close so accuracy needn't be match grade, and the coastal deer tend to be small.
Ultimately my grandson will use the same loads I do baring any accuracy oddities, but I am dead set on a gradual transition over a few hunting seasons. The American is a comparatively light rifle. I have read quite a bit about them and they are noted for recoiling pretty good.
I just piddled...
I am a forum junkie, and on all the forums I am on the American is very well respected. Accuracy reports are impressive. The triggers are very good. So impressed am I with the Americans that I bought one today. I will dial it in and gift it to my grandson. I can't answer you question about...
I scored a great deal on a Ruger American Predator 6.5Creedmoor today. I plan on giving it to my grandson Christmas of 2017 (this year he gets a lifetime hunting license.) He'll be 14 then and ready to graduate from his 223 single shot. His PaPaw has a 6.5 Creedmoor as well, so it'll be cool...
There really isn't any practical differences between the two chamberings for your stated purposes. The Creedmoor is rapidly gaing traction. Ammo and rifle makers are expanding their offerings. It has risen out of obscurity while the 260 seems to be gradually fading. If I were in your...
I had one of the original production ones. It's just a devastating whitetail rifle out to 125 yards or so. Mine (and most others from reading forums) was a little frustrating with accuracy. Mine was a 3-4 inch gun at best. Certainly minute of deer, but not quite satisfying. I shot two small...
I was blessed to have spent 3 years on active duty in Kodiak and managed to score 2 SCI record book class Blacktails. Another one was just shy. Don't worry too much about bears. In all the time I spent in the wilds there, I only encountered one bear. I saw others, but they were crossing the...
Because I know all of you have been waiting anxiously to hear back from me on this, I thought I'd give you an update. There were no signs of excessive pressure. Primer edges still well rounded. Bolt lift free and easy. The 50 grain load was pretty impressive. 1/2 inch group out of my...
I had a 7600 in 35 Whelen in Kodiak. It was a pretty good shooter. It was my bear rifle. I like 7600's and think they are generally under-appreciated. The few I have experience with were MOA guns with the right load. I'd love to make one up with a synthetic stock, stainless steel, 20 inch...
