    30-06 Field Work

I tried the 150gr AB for deer and they worked fine but not any better than the 165gr BT. I'm going back to the 165gr BT. I can't find H-4350 and don't like the the new IMR-4350 so I found a good substitute. I have gotten just as good accuracy with Vihtavuori N-550 with a bit more velocity. I...

    150g accubond 30 06.

After shooting 3 deer this season with the 150gr AB they seem to be doing OK on deer. Non have gone far with the last one a mature doe DRT with a high lung hit @200yds. Not enough to tell if the 150gr AB is any better on deer than the BT but they are flat shooting and hit hard. Boom, whack and a...

    Accubond or Partition

I've only shot a few deer with ABs but they seem to do about the same damage as BTs but exit more often. Now I'm comparing 165BTs @2800 fps to 150gr ABs @ 3000 fps. Billy

150 BT vs. the "Shoulder Joint"

Nice buck! I've killed around 100 deer with BTs of different weights and calibers and never had one not penetrate enough to do the job. I've killed quite a few with partitions and now have killed a few with ABs but not enough to tell if they are the thing for deer. I'm using the .308 150gr AB @...

    25-06 Load'n

I agree with the above post on the stopping power of the 25-06 with most of the deer dropping in their tracks that were shot much under 200 yds. But a 30-06 loaded with 165BTs is deadly on deer and the 150gr AB @ 3030fps that I've been hunting with this season is proving to be just as deadly. Billy

    25-06 Load'n

I've only killed about 30 deer with the 25-06 starting out with 100gr bullets and then moving up to 120gr solid base. I don't remember ever loosing one but the reason I went to a heaver bullet was I had a deer run hit with the 100gr late one evening. With no blood trail it took quite a while to...

    165 NAB, 30-06, deer

The last deer I shot was a grown 8pt buck at 100yds. There was plenty of blood at the impact site from the exit and the deer was dead 30yds away. I'm thinking the 150gr ABs will exit more often than 165gr BTs. Billy

    165 NAB, 30-06, deer

Nice doe! Did it leave a good blood trail? I'm starting to like the 150gr AB for deer in the 30-06. It just seems to be made for the 30-06 just like the 165gr BT. Billy

    Loading the Accubond

After shooting a few deer I'm starting to like these AcuBonds. They hammer the deer like BTs but exit like partitions. I have stepped down from 165 BTs to 150gr ABs with complete pass through. They are more accurate in my rifle than partitions. I'm showing .687",.699" and .322" 3 shot groups...

    Loading the Accubond

Stick to 5 shot groups and shoot at least 2 groups. 3 shot groups when looking for accuracy can be fooling. Billy

    Seating depth and accuracy

I had a .284 HESAM built with a heavy 26" barrel on a short action 700 action that I worked up loads for 150gr BTs and partitions .010" from the lands that wouldn't fit the magazine. Seating them to 2.820" LOA to fit the magazine made no measurable difference in accuracy or velocity. I'm showing...

    Nosler Brass

I've found Fed.210 primers did not want to seat in Nosler 30-06 brass and use WLR primers with no problems. If you don't like to prep your brass Nosler may be for you. Winchester 30-06 brass is good after you prep it but is ruff out of the bag. Federal brass is a bit thicker in the neck. I get...

    Seating depth and accuracy

I've found seating depth in most rifles to make the least difference accuracy. It does make a small difference but not as much as bullets or powder. Some rifles with very loose throats may want the bullet very close to the lands and may not shoot as well with boat tail bullets. If you're loading...

    Loading the Accubond

My experience with Accubonds is they're not finicky to load. I seat Accubonds just like BTs .005-.010" from the lands and work up the load. The most accurate powders for the .308 behind the 150-165 gr bullet are Varget, Reloader 15 and 4895. I would work up loads with the 150gr and the 165gr...

    6mm / .243 Deer Bullets

And there's a lot of folks that won't go in the woods with anything less than a .300 mag to shoot a 115 lb deer @ 70 yds. Big long range magnums are the thing now days but most deer can be taken care of with a .243 or .257. Makes me feel sometimes a bit over gunned with my 30-06. Billy

    6mm / .243 Deer Bullets

My favorite was the 105gr Speer Hot Core in my 6mm rem varmint special. Too bad they don't make them any more. Never found one in a deer. Billy

    QL Request.25-06

Back when I had my 25-06 there wasn't as many powders around for reloaders but the ones that performed well were 4350 and 4831. My Hart barreled 25-06 would put 5 of just about any 100gr bullet under 1/2" @ 100yds. at close to 3400fps. This load worked well on the small deer we have around here...

    Why match bullets for game?

I believe it's ok to use match bullets on deer but they can be inconsistent or overly destructive. I've used match bullets for deer but didn't like the way they behaved. The largest exit wound I've ever seen was what a A-Max did to a small buck. But ballistic tips can be just about as bad. Match...

    Bench form revelation

Disturbance starts as soon as the firing pin falls. Rifles with heavy firing pins and loose fitting bolts will jar the rifle off target before the bullet leaves the case. Heavy rifles increase the movement lag and allow the bullet to leave the barrel with less disturbance. A light weight, hard...

    Bench form revelation

The least amount of contact you have on your gun when you pull the trigger the better. That's why bench rest shooters shoot free recoil with 2 oz triggers. But a rifle that has much recoil you have to have the butt against your shoulder. I don't like to grip my hunting rifle too tight or press...
