Echoing what TruckDriver and Preacher said, I would say get a quality kit and learn to use it first before adding in a bunch of expensive "precision" gear that you may not find necessary. Good consistent use of a standard press and dies often reaps sub MOA accuracy.
When you can consistently...
Love those Classic Sporters. They are a beautiful rifle. I think you did well on that trade and ened up with something you'll use and appreciate. Enjoy it.
Would they let you use a plywood topped box built on 2x8's or 2x10's to rest the gun and your chest? Something that allows you to mimic the hilltop position you used out West. Just a thought.
I got a used 700 last year and adjusted the trigger. While not hard, you do need to understand what you are doing and what each adjustment does. I think I did the whole process 2-3x to make sure it was safe and watched a bunch of YouTube videos.
Mine is set at 3.5#. 3# or less was not...
I had a similar problem this fall with RL19 and my 270 130gr Fed TBT load. In my case, I think some of it was due to the temp insensitivity of RL19, some due to a new lot of powder, but mostly because I cleaned the bore to bare metal. Once I shot a handful of rounds through it, the group...
They are a great bullet as near as I can tell, so hopefully they'll make them in more calibers. Most of our shots are 50 yards or less, which I think tends to be harder on bullets than a shot further out when the bullet has slowed some. I probably should have been using partitions or AB's for...
I harvested a small buck with a load using the 130 gr TBT last weekend. As expected, excellent penetration with full pass through at 50 yard broadside shot. I'm very pleased with this load and bullet.
Very nice rig and results you got there. You should be set for a while now I'd say. Still, I'd keep my eyes open for more brass when you see it available.
Those 125 BT were very accurate in my 308 too. I think for deer, coyote and antelope they would work great. The ballistic drop tables are pretty good on them too out to reasonable hunting distances. The Green Machine is looking good for hunting in the original stock. Good luck.
Great find. That's a nice rifle. I'd say a $8 screw kit and some bedding to the lug would probably fix most issues with it. I agree it's a good idea to break down, inspect, clean and sometimes fix new to you guns. Makes me feel better knowing exactly what I have.
The only time I ever had a pattern problem with my Benelli Nova was when I put an aftermarket bead on it. It was much lower than stock, so it patterned way too high. Ordered a new stock bead and that fixed the problem.
That P64 M70 sounds great, hope she likes it. I bet that old Winchester is a smooth cycling rifle if it's a well used shooter. Always good to have "extras" in the safe and you can't go wrong with an '06.
