I dug through my old records and came up with my old reduced recoil load for a 20" barrel Mod 70:
Speer 110 gr Varminter (hollow point, intended for .30 carbine, I think)
44.0 gr of IMR-4895
CCI-200
PMC Case
Chronographed at 2450 fps @ 60° F.
1.89" 5 shot group at 100 yards
As I recall, it did...
Pretty darn close, if not exact. Most sources quote the Accurate version as being slightly slower burning, but the difference seems negligible and varies depending on who you are reading. IMR seems to have reduced some of their loading data as of late. Not sure if it is due to better pressure...
Heck, I would settle for a 90, 100, or even 110 gr Ballistic Tip in .277. Would sure make my .270WSM into one heck of a rock chuck gun. Then I would have to get a 4.5-14X Leupold to replace the lowly Burris FFII 3x9 for those 300 yard chucks!
I voted for the 130 grain because I believe the 140 gr would be too long to stabilize at .260 Rem and 6.5.x55 velocities. I certainly hope Nosler wouldn't try to make a 140 gr version for the 14 people who actually shoot the .264 Win mag and the 3 people who shoot the 6.5 Rem. Mag. (Actually...
I agree that the 140 gr Accubond is perfect for the .270 Win (or my 270WSM). But I still think that a 120, 125, 130 or 135 gr would be perfect for the 6.5x55, .260 Rem., 6.5 Rem Mag, and .264 Win Mag. Please?
Let's be fair. AS Richracer pointed out, Nosler (nor anyone else) can test and publish all possible powder, primer, bullet, and case combinations for all calibers. What they try to do is provide a cross section sample of available powders that showed good results in their testing. Sadly, that...
Actually, I believe all the Nosler bullets are sort of a semi-boat tail. None of them has as pronounced a boat tail as a Sierra or Speer boat tail, yet none of the Noslers (aside from their handgun bullets) are what I would call flat based. I don't think Nolser has made classic flat based...

Sorry for the pun. Based on personal experience:
Excellent powders: VihtaVuori N-165, Reloder 19, IMR-4350
Good powders: H-4831, Accurate XMR-4350, Reloder 22
Yet to try: Accurate Magpro, Ramshot Magnum
Excellent...
After pulling a bullet or two to verify the powder used and weight of the charge, I would consider seating a few of the rounds to more normal depth and try test firing them. If they extract and eject normally, it may have just been the anomoly of jamming the bullet into the lands. If it...
Just curious, is your Vanguard a plastic stock version? My 6.5x55 Howa Lightning came with the plastic Butler Creek stock and shot groups very similar to yours. I replaced the plastic stock with a Boyd's Laminated wood stock, floated the barrel and glass bedded the recoil lug and it shoots...
Have you tried the 140 gr Accubond? My 270WSM shoots them better than the 130 Ballistic Tips. I hardly think the extra 10 grains of weight will slow it down that much.
And besides, don't distract Nosler from the more immediate need to produce an Accubond in 6.5 mm.....
Okay, we get it. Several of you are very displeased that Nosler has thus far ignored your loud and persistent demands for the products you desire. Since tantrums only work on your parents, you resort to threats of boycotts. Fine. I too am patiently waiting for a product not currently offered...
A varmint rifle for your wife. Rrriigghtttt. Good one. Now the real question here is your budget because that can potentially eliminate a whole lot of options, and also could have a serious impact on caliber choice, too. If you have any budgetary constraints, or need for multipurpose...
Another similar option to Varget and IMR-4064 would be Reloder 15. I would presume it would be available in Europe since it is manufactured in Sweden. Although I guess it might be offered in a Norma labelled container over there.
I have to echo the sentiments of both Rick and Ol' Joe. Consider taking up handloading if you are truly serious about getting all you can out of your rifles. In over 25 years of shooting, I can't recall a single rifle that favored a factory load over a tuned handload. Also good advice about...
I also have gotten good results with Reloder 19, particularly with 130 gr bullets. My best results with my winchester super shadow in .270wsm have been with Vihtavuori N-165 and the Nosler 140 gr Accubond. I haven't tried Accurate Arms MagPro yet, but many have reported top velocities and good...
I guess one of the disadvantages to the short magnum cartridges is the reduced magazine capacity. I too, have a Super Shadow, mine's a .270WSM, and I have pretty much resigned myself to loading 3 in the magazine and then chambering the round to fire. It is still faster than a TC Encore, and...
I would vote for Hornady. They keep copying Nolser's best ideas, the V-Max A Ballistic Tip wannabe) the Interbond ( a very poor substitute for the Accubond), even their interlock design is supposed to help hold the core to the jacket so it will penetrate and hold together like a partition...
While I haven't tried it in a .300 Win Mag, it sure works great in my .270WSM with the 140 gr Nosler Accubond bullets. It is very close to Reloder 22 in burning rate, but in my rifle the N-165 gives significantly better accuracy. It also works well in my 6.5x55 with 140 gr bullets. I suspect...
You are probably right, Joe. I guess that means I have to order up some "firsts" so that they can make some more. (Ouch on the wallet, but Midway has a good price on them.) Whoa! Midway is OOS on the 6.5 120 gr Ballistic Tips. I hope Nosler tools up for them soon, I really don't want to buy...
