No pressure signs at all, have run 27.0 gr with a 55 gr Hornady SP without pressure signs. I really don't think you can get enough Varget in a .223 case to produce excessive pressure, unless you are deep seating really long heavy bullets. My range is about 500 feet above sea level. Both my...
I will try to run some of mine over the chronograph tomorrow, weather permitting. It will probably run a little slow since the temps are in the 30's outside. I will check my data tonight, as I might have written it down somewhere. (That would be out of a 16" 1 in 8" twist M&P 15 Sport)...
Be sure to post Vortex's response. They are very vocal about their "VIP" service, and I would love to hear of someone confirming that level of support.
While I haven't shot any varmints with the Varmageddon bullets yet, I would guess that they might expand similarly to the ballistic tip, but would penetrate less, given that they are a standard cup and core bullet and lack the solid base design of the ballistic tips. Also would imply that the...
Just was wondering why no 50 gr Varmageddon for the .223? Did Nosler contract to sell all the 50 gr production to ATK for the Federal American Eagle AR 223 LCT ammo (Varmint Tipped?) I was just wondering since the Federal 50 gr Tipped AR 223 bullets sure look a lot like the 55 gr Varmageddon...

Also note that the data provided on the factory box indicates a 28" barrel. Don't expect very many folks are getting very close to their advertised velocity on that ammo, and probably have a rude awakening if they ever run it over some sky screens in their 22" or 24 " hunting rifle...
Yikes! I sure hope that is some kind of typo. $58.99 for box of 25 unfired cases? If that is correct, you are better off buying loaded ammo and using the once fired brass!
Nice to hear that someone else shares my pain with the Nosler 55 gr 6mm SHOTS bullets. Except that I have over 900 of them left. My experience with them started with a Stevens in 243 with the same 1 in 9 twist. When the bullets actually hit the 100 yard target (a rare occasion), they...
Maybe so, but Midway offers 5 different factory ammo choices for the WSM in two different bullet weights for less than the price of the single 130 gr Weatherby load offered for less than $40. As a matter of fact, at Midway, at least, the price for unprimed virgin .270 Weatherby brass cases is...
Another Ramshot TAC user here. Haven't loaded anything heavier than 55 gr yet, but it works great with 40 gr V-Max, Ballistic Tips, 50 gr Ballistic Tips, 52 gr Nosler Match Hollow Points, and 55 gr Hornady SP. Also like Accurate 2015 with the 40 and 50 gr bullets. Have also got very good...
I really like the .270 Weatherby, because it makes ammo and brass for my .270WSM seem like a bargain! And the belt on its case makes the .270 WSM look modern and practical.
I will just stay with Ramshot TAC. It has a copper inhibitor in it, and seems to shoot very cleanly in my .223's. I only have about 8 lbs of it on hand, so eventually I may get to try some of the new Hodgdon CFE 223. I did pick up some of the new IMR-8028XBR for my son's .338 Federal. I may...
Thanks for the kind words, David. But I live and work in the Tri-Cities in Washington State, so am no stranger to summer heat. It is usually 10 to 20 degrees hotter here than in Chester in the summer. They sure have us beat when it comes to cold winters, though. (There are no wimps living...
I just found out I got drawn for a general deer license for Montana for the second year in a row. So it is back to the family farm south of Inverness. Hopefully, the farmer who leases it from us will have time to hunt with me again this fall. We will discuss it when I am there doing my best...
Sadly, yes, CCI has gone to the small pistol primers on their Blazer brass in .45 ACP. No problem, still reloadable, at least for those of us who also reload 9mm and .357 Magnum.
Can't go wrong with an RCBS Rockchucker. I am still using mine and it works just like it did over 30 years ago when I got it: great! Of course, some of the volume duties were relieved by the Dillon RL-550B, but I have loaded a ton of rifle ammo for various cartridges over the years. Still...
The short list:
.22lr
.223 Remington
.270WSM
.357 Magnum
longer list:
.243 Win
.17HMR
and the .338 Federal I bought for my son is really starting to pique my interest.
