That's moving right along. About 600fps faster than the 250gr Speer RN load I shoot through mine. It'll be a thumper for sure should you choose to roll with it. Interested to see what else you may come up with though. I've got brass prepped to work a mild load with 180gr Speers for plinking and...
Strong work right there Jim. I love short tracking jobs. How was the meat damage with those 250's? I was surprised on the small brownie I shot with the 260 Accubond that I lost almost all the rib meat to bloodshot. The previous animals I took with it meat loss was almost nil.
Looking good Jim. I'm interested in that Varget load you have going there. My loaded 260 accubond stash is getting low and my current load is with RL15 which I haven't seen in years up here. Looks like you should have her dialed in soon.
Thanks JD
73.2gr of RL15 and a Fed 215M is what it's sitting on loaded to max box length for the rifle. I forget the exact length but I do know it jumps .26" to the lands. That number has stuck with me.
Shoots well enough especially since I have yet to take a shot on game with it past 40 yards...
Apologies Dan, the rifle is just a run of the mill right handed one. The camera was in self portrait mode so I guess it flops it somehow?
Anyways it's a Remington 700 XCR2 in .375 H&H. Shooting 260gr Accubond handloads at around 2800. I had planned to carry my .350 Rem Mag shooting 250 Speers...
Small brownie on the last day of season last night. Won't make the record book but a beautiful hide and I salvaged all the meat as she smells good to go.
A thermacell is a necessary piece of equipment for most hunting pursuits in my opinion. The regular pads work well for skeeters though not the no seeums we call white socks up here. The new forest or earth scent pads work well for both I found out last fall. It was a bad white sock year too.
I'd say it all comes down to how much $ you want/can spend on it. As already mentioned access is usually the main issue and access costs money to one degree or another.
From a tag standpoint moose is the best bang for your buck. $800 for the non resident locking tag plus the free OTC harvest...
I'm sure that pack will do just fine for you. While the Barney's is the ultimate in heavy hauling capabilities and durability, they're price tag nowadays is enough to make me choke. Right around $900 for the pack/frame combo last I looked😳. The first 10 or so moose I packed out of the woods was...
I was lucky enough to find some Speer 250gr round nose over the winter and decided to work up a load for the bait station. Hadn't seen a test of these on here, not surprisingly since they're out of production, and thought it would be a good first for me trying to catch one.
Shooting out of...
