That's why I usually zero a hunting rifle at 200 or 250yds and carry it set on the lowest power. I don't mind a close shot. They're a little more exciting!

The 284 in a Win 70 could be loaded to 3" in a short action. Thought about this option every time I think about a 7-08 or 7x57.

Quick load says I should be running that 265gr ABLR about 2800fps. Pretty spot on so far with several other wildcats. It'll be pretty close to edge and Rum speeds. The 338Wm about 2500-2600fps. Scott

That's OK Scotty. I just found a M70 in 300Bee for 600$ and promptly mailed it to my smith to do my 338x28Nosler. It has a 3.6 box that works perfectly with the round. I didn't shoot though! I've learned my lesson! This gun had never seen the field and was in nearly perfect condition. Scott

Guy, Standing with the tripod. Try holding the gun and tripod with the left hand together and really lean into it with your shoulder while pulling back with the left hand. The opposing pressures really help to stabilize you and the tripod. Learned this in Africa. Your son's form is great - hard...
