I just fell back to 140-150gr for the flat trajectory's, even in the RUM. But that 3300160 has been a White Whale for me in a 7mm Mag! Its why I don't have one right now!
I have owned 26" barreled 7mm STW and 7mm RUM, plus one 26" 7mm Rem Mag. I was never able able to get these kind of "Bob Hagel" speeds out of them. I was able to run 3100 out of the 160 (3200 w/the bigger cases) and 3000-3050/175. As a young man, I read Bob's Book on cartridges and his use of...
Did you get a chance to take any game with that 200 Sierra Doc? If so, how did it hold up? I have shot that bullet alot in 30-06 and in a long barreled 30-06 Ackley, very accurate. Just never killed anything with it.
I've owned/used a double handful of Shilen's in many calibers, all were Righteous Barrels! I've also owned/used, PacNor, Lilja, Krieger and Douglas. Shilen is same quality DownRange! I have one right now in 7x57 that isn't even broken in yet, and I have several 1/2" groups of 5!
For a second I thought you were asking who all "has Twins"? ha My Twin girls will be 50 this coming June!!!
Great find there Uncle Fotis! I had a BB 375, and a BB 444. Never really hunted either one, shot them alot though!
Hang it up, put your parts together and have it chambered in 25-06 Ackley Improved! You won't be tempted to overcharge it as its a screamer below Max! Have a ball man.
I bet all serious Handloaders have enough powder on hand, of different burn rates, to last us the rest of our Life! lol You work up a practice load with the powder you know you won't shoot in a hunting load. You use sparingly the "favorite" powder for your serious Game Loads. You have some kind...
That was my first '06 case "Wildcat", so to speak and that 35 WAI case is almost cylinder! I had tried every powder in their #1 Load manual except H322 behind their old 200X, no results. Finally a light came on ) thinking 45-70 fast burners and why) I tried H322. Bingo, perfection, 2970fps! 58gr...
Interesting to note; back in '96 I used 53.5gr of XMR br2015 behind the original Barnes 250x in my 35 WAI fir 2550-2600. ( under 3/4") That 2500-2600 speed seems to be a sweet spot on many Whelans (or AI) with a 250. It shoots surprisingly flat too! ( Thanks for reminding me it was an XMR...
Meat that I've taken with my own handloads just somehow "tastes' better", don't you agree"? Congrats, well done! You yourself must be some kind of "Bull" by the looks of that rear quarter on you pack! ha
For that matter, the looks of that 6.5 RPM always twanged my banjo! One could neck it down for a hot 25! It would give the 257 Wby a run for its money I bet!
Life is too short Uncle Guy! You already know what the 25-06 will do, give that 6.5/06 (or 6.5 Sherman, or Gibbs, or 6.5/280 Ackley Improved ) a tryout! ha
I have the same scope on my 7x57 Marshall! Wat back in the 90's, I had a young man in my church that had a .280 , but in the Remington, BDL SS. He used the then available Federal Premium with the Nosler 150 Partition. He killed alot of mule deer/elk with that combo! In fact, he had such success...
Nostalgia Bum here, congrats on a great rifle. Back in '77 I read alot of Jim Carmichael explaining how that the factory 280 was loaded down for the Model 740 Remington. I knew a guy who used that same outfit and liked it. Mr C. said to get the best out of it handloading was required. I had only...
