Nice catch BlkRam! (and be careful driving home, (assuming you are on The Road?) As you may know, Utah is Browning Country (may as well say 7mm Rem Mag Country too, very popular here!) That 155 TA sounds interesting, and I read some very good reviews of it on Game.
Fortunately, he had just recently put a new Decelerator on it! I like that brand, plus LimbSavers too. Remington's stock design actually fits me very well as far as handling recoil. The wrist could be more Open, as I have big hands, but its OK. If I do stick with the 155 Scenar-L and 154 HHT...
Its a three port, wide, perpendicular holes i.e. like an arty brake. I've used them for decades, very efficient and "quiet" if you are doing the shooting! ha
Speaking of which...I saw another deal in the paper, so cancelled the work on the Vanguard, picked it up from the Smith and sold it ,sans mounts/scope. Put a bit of money with that proceed and bought an older , 24" Mod 700 BDL in 300Wby. Older gent having health issues wanted to sell off his elk...
Thanks guys! Me and the Lord have been Hunting/shooting buddies as far back as I can remember! ha As long as I keep Mt 6:33 before me, I get a little time off now and then! lol I have a great Assoc Pastor and another Ministry friend (traveling minister) who cover for me.
Took the 338 RPM with the factory 185 TTSX load cow elk hunting. Last Sunday AM (hey, I "normally work" every Sunday, I can take one off! ha) Anyhow, we got into them and at 160yds, my first shot went almost too high. She went about 90yds and lay down. I jumped her up and around 50yds away gave...
I remember reading about the Model 7600/270 Win in a gun magazine, seems like the late 70's or early 80's. anyhow, it shot some very tiny groups! The article was saying how well it competed with a good bolt gun.
I usually seat the Barnes and the Hammers at the top groove anyhow. Great accuracy and plenty fast. Although, if I end up wanting to shoot one alot I would probably hunt down a Model 700 Classic in 300 Wby. 1. I really like the Classic. 2. Can put a Trigger Tech on it. 3. Heavy enough to shoot...
I'm going to wait until after my cow hunt to mess with it very much. I hope to learn alot about the 300 wby, never owned one! I have used the 300 WSM, the 300 WM (have shot the majority of my big animals with it an monos) and the 300 RUM. The RUM, while great, I didn't hang on to as I am not a...
Thanks Doc! I have some 168 TTSX on hand, but thought I would start out with some 150 Sierra PH I have, for coyotes/plinking rocks out in the desert. See if this rifle wants to shoot. If the rifle shows promise, I'll step up to Barnes or Hammers.
I asked my Smith to order me a Rife Basix trigger for this VanGuard (Howa) They have been good triggers for me in several makes. Usually, Rugers and Mausers. I'm going to mount a new Burris FFII 3x9 on it instead of the Nikon Prostaff that came with it. I know nothing about this particular...
Ha! I love to trade, etc. Sometimes the deal falls through, sometimes I back out. Sometimes I sell for a profit, sometimes I keep/or give them away. Life is too short, and I find myself in the Last Stretch of The Race...I have to make the most of it!
Well now...brought home another sweet deal! Older Wby VanGuard (Blue metal/black synthetic) in 300 Wby Mag. Nikon 3x9 Pro something mounted. ( I will replace it with a new FFII 3x9 I have on hand. Rifle has a 5 port muzzlebrake already installed, leather sling and soft case...$350! I found...
I can't get over how this Wby, factory brake handles the recoil of this 338 RPM. Even though it has approx. same capacity as the win Mag, I wonder if the burn rate, case design affects (if any( the recoil impulse? Any of you Physicists/Ballisticians have any idea?
Finally got to the range this AM. After I got all set, I fired one shot at 100yds. Hit 1.5" high and two inches left. I made the corrections for windage, left the elevation alone. I then went to my 200yds target. I hit 2" high but 3" left. I moved scope 4 clicks down, but over-corrected and...
