95 grain Ballistic Tip failure on a whitetail

Sounds like maybe a defective super soft alloy then with maybe some voids (air pockets) in it. Hard to say what happened I guess. I could Guess all day long. I think, even if the bullet hit the ground and bounced up and hit the deer, it still wouldn’t explode and go left off the shoulder and...

.308 180 grain partition gold group testing out of my 300 RUM

Think that’s what I tried with mine and they literally were shooting an inch group at 25 yards when I did a random load for bear hunting. Might have to try it again someday with what I have left just don’t wanna blow through those projectiles since they are a couple bucks apiece being I can just...

95 grain Ballistic Tip failure on a whitetail

That’s just weird to me then to me because I don’t know how it would have hit a front shoulder and then the bullet defected at a 90° angle and hit it in the rear quarter.

Heavier 6mm hunting bullet - Nosler listening?

I believe you I just think they probably just use too hard of an alloy when they first produce those bullets. I Cast lead bullets. I’ve used them with too hard of an alloy and they don’t expand and almost pure soft lead, and they open up like a varmint bullet at the same velocities. I just...

95 grain Ballistic Tip failure on a whitetail

What’s a straight in shot? I’m guessing not a broadside shot but a deer facing directly towards you? So your shooting it in the neck, chest, or shoulder depending where the bullet strikes? Never took a “straight on” shot on deer in all the decades I hunted. I aways wait for a quartering away or...

Heavier 6mm hunting bullet - Nosler listening?

It doesn’t perform anything like a partition. I’ve used both. The accubonds don’t open up and blow their noses off dumping energy and act more like full metal jackets unless you hit hard bone. The partition is not bonded in the front in the lead smears right off, causing a bigger wider wound...

Heavier 6mm hunting bullet - Nosler listening?

I want a partition with a ballistic tip shoved in the front of it. IMO that would make everybody happy. The best of both worlds. The perception of being at massively aerodynamic, and still blowing the front end off immediately and holding up a lot of weight retention. Don’t wake bonded bullets...

Heavier 6mm hunting bullet - Nosler listening?

I have shot countless coyotes and bobcat and everything else with 6 mm diameter projectiles but I only shot one deer and posted about it here with a 90 grain ballistic tip. I don’t know if I would need anything else on a Whitetail in my area. It did one heckuva job. I’ve shot enough predators...

95 grain Ballistic Tip failure on a whitetail

Not me. I remember the first two deer I shot with them and they stood there like they weren’t even hit with broadside heart and lung shots. I thought I missed the first buck I shot at. It came wobbling in on three legs that the neighbors wounded stood a little under a 100 yards away. Shot it...

Heavier 6mm hunting bullet - Nosler listening?

Yep, that’s what I’m saying. Every year I hear a lot of hate for projectiles on the Internet because someone used a plastic tipped high BC target bullet on a deer and then claimed the bullet failed. It was the hunter who failed to pick the correct projectile and then complained it’s the...

95 grain Ballistic Tip failure on a whitetail

I’ve had too many bad experiences with Accubonds not expanding and not dumping energy. A lot of 100 yard track jobs with no blood trails with textbook heart and lung shots. I’d tell you to stick with partitions and find a more accurate load. Also try the 95 grainers. At least the front of...

    Stuck Cases? Plenty of Lube

That explains why it’s floating on top of my pin tumbling water when I get done tumbling. I think it eventually separates off the cases and just looks like an oil slick floating on top of the ocean.

    Stuck Cases? Plenty of Lube

Stainless steel Pin tumbling…. You must not be familiar with it. I have a couple of harbor freight rock tumblers that I use stainless steel pins in. It’s basically metal stainless pins that you add water to along with Dawn dishwashing liquid and lemi shine. I normally tumble for four hours and...

    Stuck Cases? Plenty of Lube

I noticed when tumbling my WD-40 sprayed cases I still would have oil in the water after pin tumbling. That stuff just doesn’t like to disintegrate even with Dawn dishwashing liquid pin tumbling and also adding Lemi shine. I literally would have to wipe the cases off with a rag after sizing and...

Heavier 6mm hunting bullet - Nosler listening?

Barnes used to make a .243, 110 grain round nose, cup and core, original lead jacketed projectile. Looked just like a round nose Remington core loct. Think that was about the first year or two of production when Barnes bullet company opened their doors. They discontinued it right away. I...

Barrel cooling interval during ladder test

Are you competition shooting or are you just doing ladder testing with hunting ammo? I just normally feel my barrel by touch and if it’s too hot, I give it a few minutes and let it cool down when I’m ladder testing hunting rounds. I’ve had some barrels shoot one whole groups, blood hot. It just...

Federal ammunition to Czech firm overwhelmingly approved 🙄

The rubber off your Danner boots was imported from another country. They were just made in the USA not all the parts were manufactured here so you can consider those foreign as well….lol. I personally know, bigwigs from the old lacrosse rubber mills that used to fly to other countries to strike...

Federal ammunition to Czech firm overwhelmingly approved 🙄

Thank god I reload. I haven’t bought any centerfire ammunition in over 25 years. Only shotgun and rimfire. Imo rimfire quality that comes from the company any can’t get any worse than it already is. They were working on selling it to them years ago and never went through. As long as I can get...

    Stuck Cases? Plenty of Lube

I roll mine in the old rcbs squeeze lube stuff. If I start pushing up into my sizing die and I have any resistance, I back it right out and put more lube on. I’ve stuck two or three cases in the last few decades, and it sucks. I drilled out the last one a few months ago with my stuck case...
