And that is one heck of an endorsement for the big bore Marlin levergun.
Find posts by ol' Reflex and see what all he's done with his 450 Marlin... That adds to what "SalmonChaser" had to say.
I dearly love the 45-70 Marlin but have taken only one mule deer with it. I have been sure to have...
Those 168's should do great! Probably don't need such a tough bullet but it will work for sure. Put it where it belongs. Through both lungs works really well.
One lung? Bears are tough, they can run a long way on one lung...
Those Noslers should serve you well. Best of luck on your hunt...
Ernie - for a smart guy - you're kinda crazy... You know that right? ;)
Dang! What a handgun! Dude - you are awesome. Pushing the envelope for sure.
Respectfully, Guy
I'm probably going to trade off the beautiful 7mm Rem mag, Winchester Model 70 Super Grade for something else. Much as I like the Model 70, I already have a Ruger Number One in 7mm Rem Mag that I like better. Both shoot well. I just like the falling block more. Might trade it for a 357 or 44 or...
375 H&H, because Mr H & Mr H got this one right - and like the 30-06 it just keeps getting better with age, better bullets and better powders.
7mm Rem Mag which I enjoy shooting so much more than the 300's... It's just enough less oomph on my shoulder that it seems a lot easier for me to deal...
I might be deluded. It's entirely possible. But I really, truly, love the good ol' 30-06... Especially revved up a bit with today's powders and bullets.
Dang it Scotty! ;)
Guy
Oh man, this is easy! They got it right... the 30-06 is my favorite 30-06 based cartridge... 110 - 220 grain bullets. Varmints, predators, deer, elk, bear, grizzly... Anything in North America and most of the world. Rhinos and cape buff have been taken with the 30-06. Elephant maybe? So ya, I'm...
Ha! You baited me with this thread! I like 'em both... And the 308 will do most of what a 30-06 does. I just get sentimental about the ol' 30-06 too.
Guy
I think Barsness wrote an article called "The 308 is Great!" - and he's right. I don't hunt often with it, simply because I've more hunting rifles than I need. Got my 308 used 30 years ago and I've worn out a few 308 barrels at 4,000 - 6,000+ rounds per barrel. I used to shoot it a lot... The...
It's frustrating! Time to time I run across a rifle/scope/load combo that just won't work! That doggone raises my hackles!
Then it's the whole routine of: Check the load, check the rifle, check the scope and of course, check the shooter...
Somewhere in there I usually find the truth and...
Can't say that I do...
I was pretty good with my baton and keep it handy still. It's a three-sided job made of ironwood by a fellow here in Washington. A retired cop who is an Irishman and knows wood. Pretty fine and brutal martial arts guy in his day as well. I never actually smacked anyone...
My hands aren't unusually large, I think the photo magnifies them a bit. Looking back, I think that in my law enforcement career I only slugged two or three criminals. I did however introduce a lot of them to Mr Floor, Mr Wall, and Mr trunk lid or some combo thereof. Resisting arrest isn't a...
