My first bear with a 375 H&H was at 306 yards according to the laser rangefinder.
260 grain Nosler Accubond at about 2650 fps via RL-15. Not the highest velocity but recommended by Nosler as their accuracy load:
Can easily load that bullet to 2800 fps in the good ol' 375 H&H. Should be...
In support of NYDAN's advice, "trust but verify." Yes, you can have different zeros for two different bullets/loads and it's probably just a few clicks difference between 139, 145 and 150 grain bullets. Remember that the adjustment could require windage as well as elevation adjustments. Often it...
Without even getting into +P pressures (which in 45 ACP aren't very high) it's easy to exceed 1,000 fps, and even 1,100 fps with the 185's.
Our friend on this forum, Reflex, assures me that the 185 gr Nosler is a great hunting bullet for deer! I know that the US Army Marksmanship Unit used...
A good buddy of mine has a Taurus 1911 and is quite satisfied with it. Reliable and accurate!
If you decide to handload for the 45 ACP, strongly consider the 185 grain Nosler hollow point. Accurate as all get out and yes, it expands just fine. Recoil can be quite a bit less than the 230 gr...
That's good to know. I've inquired about the age of various game animals I've taken with never a reply from Washington or Wyoming. Ah well. Apparently the critters were "old enough."
I think bears can live to a ripe old age. Maybe 15 or 20 or so?

Mike - there's not a man on this forum who wouldn't have protected her, saved her. Gun or no gun.
I've told the story of her death while addressing groups re the threat that predators like coyotes, wolves, mountain lions and bears present. I don't over-do it, I just present stories of actual...
Sadly back in 2009 a pair of coyotes killed a young Canadian woman:

I remember reading the articles back then. Stuck with me that yes, they can be dangerous.

Good subject, and I agree with folks here that quality optics are important.
Binos - I use Zeiss 10x42's. Excellent resolution, not that great in low light. I handed them to a birdwatcher friend of mine while hiking one day and she was blown away by the clarity. I think she was going to go out...
Agree - I've tried that AT-One - not my favorite. Very sharp edges, squared off styling. The adjustable comb and adjustable length of pull are pretty good.

Ordered the "Heritage" for my 6.5 Creed Bergara. Looks good. Fits me well. I ordered it with the pillars installed and a Pachmayer Decelerator pad. Just popped my Bergara in it, torqued it down and everything fit great.
For my Marlin 1895 I had to do a little fitting to get the XX walnut...
I've used it, but only at 100 yards. Works well. He's got an ipad sized thing (not sure if it's an ipad) pretty much dedicated to it. Takes a moment or two to establish connectivity between the two, but mostly it's just a matter of giving the camera and the ipad a little time to communicate...
