Trees make strange shooting medium. If anything they can actually hold a bullet together. I have a buddy that had a pretty long tracking job on a deer and when he finally got it and was gutting it he found the bullet 100% virtually intact with a nose cone barely altered and beautiful rifling...

I think it's more a function of how fast the gas and pressure can get out of a smaller hole. Look at the 243 vrs 308...or 2506 vrs 3006.... the smaller the hole the slower the powder needs to be. Think of a small funnel emptying compared to a big funnel. Think of little guy beer farts vrs big...

So....with all this work....what is the big advantage over the good old 7 rem mag? I always thought the 7 wsm should have been more popular too....seems like a custom gun set up to hang the bullet out on the wsm would have been sweet....but it's already pretty much extinct.

On game reports on anything bigger than deer have not been good on the eld x. There are even plenty of "messy" deer reports. I would be pretty Leary using em on elk from what I've seen too. A fine beanfield , powerline, tundra type bullet I would think.
