Now, just how cool is that! My 9.3x62 went to a fella that owned a matching 6.5x55 and my 6.5x55 went to a fella that had a matching 9.3x62. I'd guess you'd have to say, three fellas with the same tastes!
I am of the same mind; to sell or trade those I have but do not use for a long period. It is easier to justify those sales, when the $$ goes for another one to fill an empty cabinet space. (or, perhaps, that spot under the bed). I once managed to get one rifle back I felt badly about selling...
Mine has moved out now as well, along with a twin in 6.5x55. They both were among the rifles "sacrificed" to buy my double in 9.3x74R. Both those CZs were fine rifles and both now have very happy "new" owners.
Yes, on a raking shot, quartering away. Passed through about 20-24" of a nice little 8 pnt from Ky on last year's opening afternoon. The cute one in the pic is my middle GS, 2 yrs old at the time.
I couldn't agree more Scotty. I have also owned two CZ 550 FS rifles, one in 9.3x62 that shot sub MOA with the least expensive load I found for it. It was only going to be for initial work and sight-in, but it shot so well I left it in for hunting too.
Congrats on making a great decision and great purchase! I own M77 SS Hawkeyes in .338 Fed & .358 Win, both are fine rifles and I'd like to add a SS Whelen to the mix as well. From my experiences with the four Whelens I've owned, I doubt it will take all that much to find a good load to fit your...
I bought a similar rifle, the CZ 527 American, but in .223. It was a tack-driver from day one and I was able to shoot .5" groups with Wisconsin Cartridge Co. bulk 55grSP ammo, from day one with it's sporter weight barrel. Many love the Savage name and the accuracy they normally supply. I bought...
Congrats on a great find & purchase! I've got the same rifle in '06. It looks like you also got a nice chunk of Circassian there too. Not sure what looked odd with the # but if it might help, mine is 760-00XXX. I don't know if you got the rings with it or not, but I think a 6X42 would be very...
I'm with the others and think a .458 WM would absolutely make a decently practical rifle for the lower 48. I bought a like new 45-70 #1 a few years ago at a killer price. I kinda wish now that I'd bought a #1 in .458 WM instead, looking at what more one might do with it. That 45-70 has become a...
Excellent, only one slight misstep. The cartridge between the .338 Fed and .358 Win is a .356 Win. Other than that you were spot on! And, it is a .375 Win, which is impossible to tell from a 38-55. That 9.3x74R is just a slight bit longer than your .375 H&H.
This is a line-up of my medium and big bore rifle cartridges. Take a gander and see if you can figure what they are. (hint, four of them are actually the same caliber)
I had decided to buy one of the Swarovski 3-9x36s with #4 reticle a while back ($750). Somehow, however, a rifle purchase got in the way. It would get my vote at that price break.
She looks great! I don't know how much you might have shot a Whelen before, but I got my first over 20 yrs ago. It is my favorite cartridge and a much more versatile round than most give it credit for being. I've owned four rifles in .35W over the years, still have two and am wanting at least...
This happens to be a dilemma that I worried about for years, as my collection grew. Would I remember to lever in another cartridge when I shot at an animal with a L/A? Would a bolt gun feel funny to me? Would I simply freeze after I shot an animal with a single shot?
My first harvest with a...
First photo is: 6.5RM, .270WSM, 7mmSAUM, .300SAUM, .325WSM and .350RM
2nd pic is: 6.5RM, 6.5x55, 7X57, 8X57 and 9.3x62
You did very well, as some of these are not exactly houehold names!
1st pic is: .243, 7/08, .308, .338F and .358W
You were 100% on #2! Congrats! After I took the pic, I realized I forgot the .338/06, but I was too lazy to get everything back out again and take another pic....lol.
These should be a tad easier to identify. They all, within each family, share a common case and are simply various different calibers on that common case.
