By the time we found my first deer- a week after I shot it- it was too long to be Ok with trying to eat it even though it was cold that week. However, Dads Short hairs never looked better come mid winter. Sleek and shiny, and solid muscle, with just a little too much fat.... At least it didnt...
The man does with his pistols what I cant do with a rifle and enough sand bags to build a "cement pond"... ;) Looks like you are set Ernie. have a great time! CL
Cant keep up with all the horse trading in this thread...seems like you started out with a shtland pony and ended up with Man-O- War. Always liked the look of that Ruger Gun metal Gray finish. If Cerakote had been as popular 25 years ago, the old 250 would never have gotten a Bluing job. Bet...
Impressive story of the hunt and an admirable young man. Best wishes to him. Really sharp mount. Best wishes with the shoulder. Surgery is no longer an option on mine.... good for you getting after it. All the best! CL
Sounds like an opportunity for a challenging unique hunt...and with your daughter.... Makes me emotional. You must have done something right Dad. Enjoy on all fronts and let us know how it goes! CL
I am once again humbled by the story of some one who lived effectively in service to others. Also thankful again for some one who served in my stead. Sorry for your loss... CL
Jason- That sure is a handsome animal. You look like one pretty happy hunter. Was he hanging out in that clear cut or is that just where he ended up? CL
Hey Dan- Thats great! Really nice "utility" rifle that is also pretty, and apparently performs well. "Beware the man with one rifle..." Sounds like may have just become a one rifle, rifleman. Nice! CL
You will OCCASIONALLY hear of a BT not making it through a shoulder blade or other large bone on this forum but it is rare. Weird things occasionally happen with bullets, be they 12 ga. slugs o ballistic tips. The advice you've heard here seems sound to me. 130 Gr anything out of a 270...
I skimmed this post so I confess that I may have missed the answer to the underlying question. Nope- I would not tumble loaded rounds. The smith who fixed my 250 Sav, shared that in his youth, during gunsmithing school, he was acquainted with a guy who tumbled loaded 30-06 rounds. According...
I started out looking for a 25-06, the 250Savage just found me sooner. (see my recent post about the 250.) Say what you will, there's a long list of people who think the 25-06 shoot well above its weight for all the reasons noted. Less recoil may be one of them. CL
Know and shoot w/ people who work for Federal. Reality is, as has been noted, most our ammo and components are now sourced outside of this country. Between the EPA and the profit margin- the future of the sport and our rights are being sold over seas.
Writing briefly to share about the passing of my wifes uncle. John went home to be with his Lord about a week ago. Back about 1987 I asked him to help me look for a rifle, as I wanted something in .25 cal and they were a lot more common back home in SD. He knew I needed something with minimal...
