The .338 Fed and .358 Win have always interested me. I did own a .358 Win for awhile in a Savage 99A, realized I'm not a lever guy. Would love to have either on a bolt action.
What rifle did you rebore?
Ankle is as good as it's going to get, held together by two plates and 20 something screws. I get around pretty good, except going off roading. With a fused ankle it's hard to walk hills and navigate over dead falls and loose rocks. I'm back to work and able to start playing again, but I'm...
I hope I enjoy it as much as I enjoy my 6X47. My old 6X47 only has a 1:12 twist, and my 6X45 has a little faster than I need but I could only get the 5R rifling in the 1:7 twist barrel. I bought two barrels from X-Caliber and I hope to build a .243 someday with the other barrel.
I've been saying I'd never build another rifle on a Savage action but here I am going down the rabbit hole again.
One problem all the parts are too heavy! The rifle's a 6X45 (6mm-223) what do I need a 9lb rifle for?
So I tore it all back down and sent it to Marty at Twisted Barrel to...
Cool rifle! I wanted a lever in .358 and looked long and hard for a Win 88 I could afford. Wound up with a Savage 99 in .358 Win. Unfortunately I could never get the rifle to shoot the way I wanted and it had a bad ha it of eating scopes, plus I'm really not a lever action guy.
Sounds like a really great build, I haven't taken the plunge to the Creedmoor yet. I'm liking the idea of the 6mm version though better than the 6.5mm.
Well if you already have one it's a good reason to stick with the AI. I just found it kind of odd wanting an AI to shoot cast boolits. Usually that's not the reason for wanting an AI cartridge.
200 grain Partitions, Rem M700, and H4350 anchored me this bad boy at 200 yards in Alaska back in 2006.
I'd use that combo again but I rarely find the need for a bullet that heavy.
I should say that there is one more cartridge I'd like to play with as a wildcat. I'm waiting to see what's going to happen with the .22 Nosler case. I think this one could be fun since it has a .378 bolt face that will make it easy to put into about any rifle you like.
I've talked with Dewey a few times, mainly on the Savage 10/110 action for builds. I've played with some wildcats, and have kind of drifted away from most. In most cases I've found that the only gains I see from a wildcat cartridge is simply on paper, as I'm not good enough in my shooting...
My buddy is a believer in them he loves his .223. I kind of want to try the Alpine, but they're nearly the same price as a Kimber Montana. The Montana has some features I like better.
Well the rifle you posted is a long action "Magnum" bolt face not standard. I though if you were looking for a magnum bolt face rifle and could work with a short action you could save some money you couldn't recoup from trying to sell a used barrel.
