    Weatherby/Fotis/Others

I like your recommendation. There is probably no better cartridge for deer sized game than the .270 wby. I've heard that some plains game animals go 2000 lbs. and the 300 wby can handle that but, the 340 could do it better. I'd feel better having a .340 or something similar in my hands...

Nearly a decade in the making!

That's a heck of a cartridge there and a good job building it. After shooting a friends a few times and seeing what 500 grains at over 2400 fps can do I'd think anything on the receiving end will give it up quickly!

    Snakes

Jamila, I am reading this and hope to see Victoria Falls. Preferably while having a drink with a few folks I've come to be fond of. :>)

Thanks for doing this. It's one thing to picture in your head and another to see it.

    Rifle Stock

April, I really thought hard about this style for the butt stock area. They shoulder very well for quick target acquisition and give you a great line for the eye to mate up with iron sights. I'm not a fan of the full length fore end though. I'm comfortable with a straight stock and the monte...

    That is something! Someday........................

    340 Bee

I remember that place and your grandfather going through the process of selecting which cartridges..............I'm still impressed on what a great thing it was to do that. And Scotty has a good point, that thing is a monster but, it is not bad on the shoulder at all. It's not dainty like the...

    Sorry, did not notice.

    340 Bee

Fotis, How do you like the .340 WBY in the accumark? To me it is the perfect platform for such an animal. Pretty darn near destructible stock, accurate way out there and almost impervious to weather. With a Vias brake, 2 lb. timney, leupold VX7 2.5-10x45 and talley lows it is a pleasure to...

    2017 Elk Hunt

Sounds like a great way to use 3 days if you ask me! A 35 Whelen just has to be a stopper for elk. Hope you do well and am looking forward to pics. chs

    Coolers

I've hunted in shorts in November here in Texas where you can have all four seasons in one day. I remember once that it hit 80 degrees on Christmas day. We have to prepare for hot weather and getting deer skinned/quartered and on ice quickly. Some of the places I've hunted are pretty far off...

    Coolers

One thing about coolers. It's the exterior temperature that makes the yeti's of the world make sense. Yeah, that sounds like I've become "obvious man" but, a two or three day trip in the North is nothing like it is down south. Two or three days down here where it is usually in the 80's...

    Mineral Licks

We use them in conjuction with food plots and protein feeding. The freakin hogs use them more than anything. :>)

    Kifaru gun bearer

I've bought one to be used on an upcoming hunt. It's now on my pack and will carry hands free. However, now that it's there I've got two questions to you folks who use them. 1. It seems irritating to me to have the scope rubbing on the inside of my arm................. Is this the case for...

    6.5 x 54 Steyr Männlicher Schönauer

Jamila, I've read where the flat tip of the 156 grain oryx snags on the chamber of the mannlicher. I've no experience with that cartridge so just passing what I have read. Looks like woodleigh makes a nice 160 grain bullet.

    Coolers

I used to put elk in a standard igloo with dry ice and then duct tape the seals. I'm going with a 125 qt canyon this time. Last year a guide had one and the darn thing held ice for days on end. Extremely well built, better insulated and for the size a little less expensive than yeti. It...

    Your favorite Nosler bullets?

Yep, When I started that project rifle, the 250 grain AB was the bullet in mind for it.

    Your favorite Nosler bullets?

Doc, I can't this year, there are other things that need attending but, in 2019 a certain 9.3 will be going for elk using the same 250 grain AB at I believe the same velocity you use yours. Pretty sure what walks the North Woods will fall to your rifle this year.
