My deepest condolences Troy. You may take solace in knowing that you will see all of them again, someday. Having that hope has gotten me through many a dark and sad hour. Until then they are at rest; death is much harder on the living than those who have passed away.
My father is an ardent fan...
My boss is going to be 69 next month. He’s an old Cat skinner that also owns a ranch. I will tell you what I always tell him. You fellas are too tough to die so you better plan on living to 125 at least. 😂
Update!
Got my elk on November 17th. The write up on that is in the Hunting section. I erroneously thought that both of my hits were pass-throughs. Today while cutting up my elk, I found the second bullet in the offside shoulder. It weighed 93 grains for 62% weight retention.
Not bad...
Well I stand corrected. Today when I was cutting her up I found that last bullet in the offside shoulder. It weighed 93 grains which is 62% retention. Not bad performance at all!
That’s about the kind of budget I need with the kind of “gun-lust” I suffer from while being married with two kids!!
I also wear XXL gloves and usually somewhere between size 11-12 for boots depending on the manufacturer. I’ve always been a big fella, I’m 6’2” and weigh 250#. I guess I would...

Per OP, nobody likes recoil, it just bothers some less than others.
When shooting at game, I don’t notice any difference between a .338 Lapua Magnum and my .22-250. Off the bench at the range is a different matter.
Long ago I decided a .357 Magnum in the vitals was better than a bad...
I like that the Stoeger comes with interchangeable choke tubes. That way I could use it with steel, shoot rifled or brenneke slugs, etc. I would likely spend the few extra $$ to get the dual triggers model.
The price point is the most attractive thing however. I see a used Remington/Baikal on...
I’ve long been a fan of all .257 caliber cartridges. My first was a .25-06! With that Remington 700, I have taken several truck loads of coyotes, 8-10 deer and one elk. It is a very underrated cartridge to be sure.
I used my Dad’s ancient Savage 99RS in .250-3000 for lots of plinking, badgers...
Looking to pick up a cheap but reliable 20 gauge SxS or O/U for less than $500.
This will see use as a loaner as well as personal use for upland and occasion for clays. Changeable chokes would be nice but not necessary. Minimum 26” barrels.
Have been looking at used guns as well as new...
Would you mind sharing photos of the Whelen? This setup (1895 in .35 Whelen) makes a lot of sense to me. In fact if I was well-heeled enough I would go out and build one right now!
Did you rebore the existing barrel or get a custom barrel?
I should also add my Winchester 1894 .25-35 WCF! Obviously good enough for deer, I would also use it on elk inside of 125 yards.
Here is a pic of my friend Josh shooting rock chucks with it!
I do not have pictures of all but for me short range rigs are <100 yards guns.
My Lyman Great Plains .54 caplock would likely get the nod on deer or elk.
A shotgun with rifled slugs or even my Blackhawk in .357 magnum with 180 grain Bear Loads would certainly suffice inside of 75 yards.
My...
After feeding all of the stock this morning, I took a little drive in the back country. I drove up to our western boundary fence just in time to catch a herd of about 75 head of elk. This cow was in the rear.
Running left to right towards the neighbors fence at between 250-275 yards I led...
