    Rebarrel Which Company?

I am having my 221 rem rebarreled and Shilen is not rebarreling guns till mid year. Thats who did my 358win. That said I looking at ER Shaw & Pac-Nor to do the work. Any thoughts these or orther companies to do the job? Its Rem 700 laminated and other than 221Rem it will be a 24" factory...

    Performance of some 224 bullets

These would be for my 1:12 twist 223rem rifle and fur friendly for yotes. First either the SX or Blitz 55gr, than any 60-64 gr bullet thats short enough for the 12 twist so its just SP's and HP's that fill that nitch. Nosler has at least one 60gr HP? I have a super accurate load using the...

    30-30 Fans

The perticuler blend of LVR sold to the public is the blend they use in the 30-30 LVR ammo. Use a good 170gr bullet like the REM CLRN and you will have the best of the best. I can speak more to its use in the 35REM where the longer bullets perform better like the 200gr flextip and the 220gr...

Not Sure What Bullet to Load

The 125gr PT and not loaded hot say 2700fps. It would do wonders on deer if not shooting acrossed canyons. Velocity has a lot to do with felt recoil so I would balance bullet weight and velocity. Meaning not a lite bullet at the fastest velocity and not a heaviest bullet either. Any of noslers...

    Cleaning Cases after resizing.....

I simply clean cases before I size them. No dirty cases go in my dies! And media stuck in the flash hole gets pushed through by the decapping pin and cleans as it does. After sizing let go ing to untreted corn cob media to get the lube off. if there is any media in a flash hole lyman has a...

    Predator rifle suggestion

First deside on the type of rifle AR or bolt action. For the AR a 223rem or 6.8mm SP would be great. For a bolt action 223rem, 6mmX47, or the likes. Any thing from 221rem to 243 would work fine. Even the 22 Hornet will work for 100 yards shots but its limited. Check out the CZ527 rifles sweet...

    New WT rifle ?

For the range and lighter recoiling I say a 308 case based cartridge 260rem 7mm08 or 308win will work fine. I would go with the 7mm08 with 140-145gr bullets. And a VXIII in 1.75-6, My 0-250 yard gun is a 358win and it wears a VXIII 1.5-5 and it works great for 200 shots and 15 yards shots too...

    Accubond vs Interbond

Remember the AB has by design a weight retention of 60% to 70% and that is for terminal performance that higher weight retaining bullets do not have. So that's not a destroyed bullet but it is a fine performing bullet.

    Remingtons quality

After finding no used 700 rifles for under $450 to build a 222rem on my year long search ended by buying a SPS Stainless in 223rem. Put a B&C medalist stock on it set the trigger pull to 2.75lb and filled the protruding screw on the trigger to glass smooth. If I do my part it will group about...

    Cartridges That Didn't Take

Depends on what you call popular. Some are going strong after close to 100 years I would say they took (22hornet, 35whelen) The 222rem was highly popular and spawned the 222rem mag, 223rem, 221rem, 6x47, 6.5x47, 20vartrag. The savage line was highly popular but built around their 99 rifle and...

    Cannelure Question

Its the OCL measured at the O-give match it to the partitions and you will be close. Distance to the lands is what you want to know for performance and safty.

Bullet Performance, Blood Trails, and Meat Damage

Its pretty simple, major factor is velocity second is the bullets terminal design. And there are lots combinations that work to dispatch game. A third factor is what the bullet actually hits. All these factors determine terminal performance and what type of trauma. The surgical cut of an arrow...

    Removing primers

OK I am lost. I under stand the high out put of the progesive press. I used to load on a RCBS 4x4 for my pistol, and the only draw back was the primer pockets did not get cleaned. Did not matter for pistol cartridges or any high volume shooting like a 223rem in an AR. The decaping is done with...

    Removing primers

Under stand your question but here is my answer. Just tumble them and then store them clean. Now just reload as you need to problem solved. If you even read any of my posts I refuse to size any drity brass and find it a plus to size/decap brass that is clean. Its nice to clean brass as soon...

    Gun Oils ???

For just oiling the outside of guns for corrotion propection I like Hoppe's benchrest oil, and have used Ballistol alot the last few years. I use Kroil for soaking bores to get them clean, bet it fine for the outside too. And for daily use during hunting season in cold or wet weather WD40 to...

Decapping and Neck Sizing Dies versus FL Dies

To under stand the differance and advantages read a reloading manual completely. Hornady's is a great manual as is Nosler & Speer. Hornady even has a video and I bet Speer or RCBS dose too. A once fired case from your rifle thats neck sized will be the most accurate as you can get. Thats if...

    Rifle/Cartridge Wish List?

Gerry For that 35rem of some short, I'd love a 141 with a 24" barrel and a Model Seven 21" barrel and stocked like the classic.

    Difference in presses???

My first attemp to load the 358win was with varget and about two grains under max the powder was so compressed the OCL would grow even with the Lee Factory crimp. 2380fps was all I could get with varget with a 200gr SP. Now H4895 worked fine and so dose TAC and not compressed either. Never...
