    Vulnerable

No doubt, wolves may not be a big threat, but the possibility of an attack is not zero. Because it's not zero, it remains a concern to people who never had to think about it before they were relocated into our backyards (in a manner of speaking) without our permission. To learn more about...

    Vulnerable

Back in the 1960s here in western Montana, from 12 years old through late teens, myself and other youngsters would camp in the mountains nearly every weekend during the summers. We very rarely ever had a firearm, and none of us were afraid of animals coming into camp. Young people can't do that...

These people are losing their minds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree... In Jim's book, he used quite a few very fine rifles from his own personal collection to illustrate certain points. He was a big fan of the M70 and fancy walnut, with many of those fine stocks carved and checkered by him. He competed in NRA Highpower, and fired more rounds throughout his...

    How to cook a Wolf?

May not need deep pockets... To learn how the environmentalists are using billions of our tax dollars against us, have a look at the following story, entitled, "Environmental Lawsuits Rake in Billions for Lawyers": http://www.nowpublic.com/environment/en ... ns-lawyers Who knows, maybe hunters...

    How to cook a Wolf?

They didn't leave Yellowstone on their own.... The pro-wolf environmentalists weren't content with just introducing a few into Yellowstone. Non-native Canadian wolves were transported to many parts of Idaho and Montana, most in the dark of night, and they never allowed prior public comment...

    M1A Mags - 5 or 10 rd

The type of block I mentioned is removable - like a plug in a shotgun tube magazine. Are you saying existing pre-law guns/mags became illegal? After passage of the 1994 AWB, pre-ban guns weren't affected. There was quite a market for "pre-ban" guns in the later 1990s. BT

These people are losing their minds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have Jim's "Book of the Rifle". Good read, but a little old school now. Back in late 1991 or early 1992 I bought one of the first Ruger stainless rifles just like the one in the auction, but in 7RM. It produced 5" groups at 100 yards with Remington factory ammo and 2-1/2" groups with Nosler...

    How to cook a Wolf?

I talked to a reporter for the Ravalli Republic newspaper yesterday about the possibility of wolf sightings inside the city limits of Hamilton Montana (population 5k). My dad lives in a retirement community apartment just a few blocks from main street in Hamilton. The unconfirmed story indicated...

6BR, the ultimate in efficiency, accuracy and versatility

Thanks for posting! I've considered the 6BR for quite some time now (would actually make a nice rifle/cartridge combo for my daughter). Case availability has been question of mine. I'm not into reforming cases. BT

    M1A Mags - 5 or 10 rd

I'd check with local law enforcement to be sure, but you may be able to install a block in a higher cap magazine that reduces capacity. BT

Load Development -- Seating Depth First?

I'll second that... If I buy a race horse, I want it to run... I shoot a magnum because of the range it provides. I always begin load development with a combination of components that should deliver the velocity I'm looking for, and bullets are loaded a few thou off the lands. Once a reasonable...

    barrel cleaning and copper fouling?

It's copper. Not bad, but still copper. Put the rifle in a gun vise or on a short bipod with the barrel slightly muzzle down. Run your rod with patch tip through the barrel from the action. Soak a patch with Sweets, and pull it back into the bore 10-12 inches. Work it back and forth a dozen...

Why one needs a robust scope.

Guy, I saw this same thing once with a Leupold VX-II 4-12 AO during a pdog hunt. While laying prone, I swiveled my shoulders to point my binocs toward another area, and accidentally bumped the 223 rifle, which was sitting on the ground on a short Harris bi-pod. It fell over - an easy tipover in...

    7mm Rem Mag Advice

I've found load data in the several manuals I have to be on the mild side in my Rem 700 7RM. To nearly achieve velocities published in the Nosler manual, for example, I need to go above the stated maximum charge by 2-3 grains of powder - and this is without any signs of overpressure. BT

    Bullet Stability, or Lack Thereof

I don't believe the Nosler BTs are being "over-stabilized" in a Remington 700 223. A 223 using a 50gr BT bullet launched at 3450-fps in a 1:12 twist barrel will have approx the same spin rpm as a 220 Swift at 4000-fps using a 1:14 twist. I suspect even an AR with a 1:7 to 1:9 twist would still...

    Bullet Stability, or Lack Thereof

I've shot more than 1000 50gr Nosler BTs through my Rem 700VLS 223 with a 1:12 twist, mostly with W748. It's the most accurate bullet I've tried. Never had a keyhole, no matter hot hot they were loaded. In the loads I've assembled, 28 grains of W748 filled the case to the top of the case neck...

    11 Pounds

I wonder sometimes how companies like Nosler deals with these boom & bust buying trends. They could sell many times their annual production in just a short time, but then what happens to their market once the panic is over, end users have many times what they need and the pipelines are full...

I acquired these take-off Rem 700 short-action stocks about a year ago with plans to build a couple rifles.... I need another 308 Win or two to complete my bucket list....
