Thanks very much for the insight and load suggestions. I have a few of the recommended powders on the shelf and a few large rifle and magnum primers to try.
Finding the right load will, of course, require evaluating several variables: sonny boy's need for speed vs daddy's need for extreme...
I'll register my vote for the 7mm-08 using 120 Grain Nosler BT's. Even in my lightweight Model 7 bolt gun its recoil characteristics are negligible. The benefit in the 7mm-08 is that if/when she becomes used to the round and more comfortable shooting, it can be loaded up using the vast...
My buddy's son recently purchased a Browning ABolt in 300 wsm without the boss.
The young man [and his dad] are interested in getting into reloading for this rifle. I have invited them to stop by after the holidays and we would load up several rounds for his rifle to begin the load development...
Pick up a few 7mm 120 grain BTips and load them up for him to use in his 7mm-08. Very mild recoil and he might just learn to love his current rifle all over again. Deadly on critters and extremely accurate. Hint: SPS has them for sale right now, too. These bullets made me love my Rem Model 7...
Just a quick question... I've shot a lot of deer with my little 7mm-08 using 120 BT's and have never had a bullet fail to exit. Archer Adam cites 2 incidents where very close range shots from a 30-06 using a fairly stout 150 bullet failed to exit from a relatively thin skinned animal.
I know...
I once purchased 3500 9mm bullets..... about 2 years before even owning a 9mm pistol. They were a good deal.
I own many sets of dies for calibers that I don't own [yet].
I possess 5k large pistol primers, but don't own a pistol that shoots them,... but someday a 1911 will appear, I hope...
Thanks for the knowledgeable insight into this bullet. Sounds like I may need to get a few for target and plinking.... Or else I'll have to take up varmint hunting. But I'm going to be concentrating on the hunting loads first. I need to get this thing shooting the inventory of 100 gr BT's and...
The general Nosler rule has been if it's sold in a 50 pack it's a hunting bullet, if it's sold in a 100 pack it's a varmint bullet. Does this rule of thumb hold true for the 85 grain 25 cal CT ballistic silvertips? They're sold in a 50 pack; but the "regular" Nosler Btips are sold in 100 packs...
In the final analysis there are only 3 types of people in the world:
Those that make things happen.
Those that watch things happen.
And those that wonder what happened.
I constructed my setup by anchoring 2x4's to the walls and floor; I built counter tops from a double thickness of 3/4" particle board and topped it with formica. Below is lots of open shelf storage for ammo. Above are wall cabinets for storage of components, etc. One of the best things I did was...
This is a new dimension in reloading for me. When does the weight of a case demonstrate such a divergence from the average that it should be culled from your inventory? I have 60 previously fired Remington 7mm-08 cases; all freshly trimmed, tumbled, flash holes de-burred and re-primed. The...
I got out my chronograph yesterday to begin prepping for the arrival of a new rifle and the load development that goes with it and to my surprise i found all of my diffusers [skyscreens] have yellowed. Yup, its been in the box a lot longer than I care to admit; but will I need to replace these...
Loading is a 12 Step Program

5. Insert Bullet, Seat to proper length
6. Clean cartridge
7. Go to Range

I decided to begin a scope upgrade program several years ago on all of my rifles. Started out by buying a 4-12 Swarovski [it happened to be attached to Rem 700 Mountain Rifle in .270 at the time]. A couple of years later I was in Cabelas and found a 3-9x40 Zeiss Conquest in the Bargain Cave for...
My name is Rob. I am a handloader.
I love the Midway catalog. When I found out what the retail cost of 7mm-08 ammo loaded with 120 grain Nosler BTips was, I just had to point it out to my wife. She was very impressed by how much money I am able to save by loading my own ammo.
Of course I...
Like a fool, I passed up one of those Ti 700's in 7mm-08 brand new about 8 years ago. At the time my daughter was getting married and I had just bought a 700 Classic 7Mag for my new son-in law, put a custom made, highly figured stock on it with a Zeiss scope. That purchase and the wedding costs...
Hey Big Rifle Man: I've been looking for one of those TI 700's in 7mm-08 for a few years.... Any chance you want to sell it??? Or, could I at least get in line as a prospective buyer?? Is the rifle still with the original stock and barrel? How does it shoot???
Thanks for the many replies.
To 257 Ackley: First of all, NICE rifle! Next, NICE shooting. I agree that the spiral flutes on the bolt had no adverse impact on your rifle's accuracy potential. I hope the 257 Roberts I'm having built shoots as well.
To All: Thanks very much for all of your...
