    Questions about a new 25-06

Rather than muck up the RL26 thread, I'll post this seperately. Is c. 60-70, or more, fps change per inch of barrel length normal in 25-06? This is the 1st 25-06 I've worked with & am exceeding all loading manual speeds at listed charge weights by a pretty good amount; newest Nosler, Sierra...

"Brass: Mixed, but mostly Starline" Just a hunch, but are the flyers different brass from the rest?

    260 Rem Quickload Request please!!

There is data for 95, 100, 107, 120,129, & 140 bullets in the Western Powders loading manual. I'm sure safe starting charges for the 125 & 130 gr will be very similar to the 129 gr start charges. No affiliation other than a satisfied customer... https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/ ...

Sunday reloading. What are you loading?

No reloading yet, it was range day. A perfect day. 80* & almost no wind. The 22-250 Ackley went along with a new lot of powder & new bullets. All the old stuff is gone & the new is different enough to need new development. Bummer... 4 of the 5 groups were close to 3/4". The 25-06 didn't like...

    carbon solvent?

That's a bit above my paygrade Nimrod, but still interesting. I tried some of the old Barnes X bullets in the early 90s in my 338-06 & remember pushing long slivers of copper from the thrust side of the rifling out of the barrel with a tight patch afterwards. What a mess. They shot poorly, &...

Sunday reloading. What are you loading?

Thanks SJB358, I shot the H4350/200 BT on 7-29, getting up to 64 gr. & 2941fps. When breaking 2900 the level of recoil got noticeably faster & sharper. It's brisk for sure. Gain is c.20-25fps per 1/2 gr. Accuracy was around 3/4" for 4 with the higher charges. I may go a wee bit further but it...

    carbon solvent?

Thanks for the further links Nimrod. I tried to start reading the Australian test but it's too late & me brain wont allow it. It's been downloaded for a long winter's night or something. Was just wondering out loud if that was maybe contributing to lhsako's black patch problem.

    carbon solvent?

Has anyone else noticed with some of the newer copper fouling reducing powders how black the patches come out & how many black patches there are when first starting to clean? Maybe it's not carbon? Maybe it's a by-product of anti-fouling? Back in the day you could tell how a car was running by...

    Sako, Yes. That's the stuff.

    carbon solvent?

Hi Nimrod. I had seen something about CLR & forgotten completely about it. Thanks for the links. The rifle has been fired a bit since the above pics & was down in the shop soaking since yesterday. Here are 2 from today & the crusty ring is gone. Maybe it got blown down the barrel after soaking...

    How is your memory?

What was the question? Yeah. same thing, but a smaller gouge, around here. No stickers on top of old stickers, so it may be newly aquired stock. Unsure what's happening at the wholesale level. WLRs are $45/1000. Still bargain 9mm (Defender @$16) & (Fiochhi) under $20/box. Limit of 2/per. At...

    carbon solvent?

After repeated applications & turning a 6mm brush where it stops in the chamber, using a 25 cal. brush (better fit to the problem area), a 5 hr. soak, & finally an overnight soak the ring is still there but much diminished. I may go back in & try further cleaning, but may also try other...

    carbon solvent?

Sako, are you chasing carbon in the bore or the carbon ring build up at the front end of the chamber? No it's not brushless for carbon ring buildup, & apparently my usual cleaning regimen takes care of most carbon in the bore. See below. Picture #5 may show bore carbon buildup as the black stuff...

    RL15 for .308 ?

You might be surprised at the accuracy. RL15 is very similar to & will work almost as well or sometimes better than H4895 in every cartridge I've tried it in. Charge weights will be within a few grains but not the same. A friend used it in hunter class BR with 150s in a 308. He won a lot of...

Removing Redding imperial sizing die wax

For years I used an old T-shirt to wipe off the sizing wax. Now I've graduated to paper towels folded in 1/4s. I saw a post on another site that said Imperial Sizing Die Wax is proof that god loves us & wants us to be happy. If they ever need it, I clean my dies with either spray carb cleaner...
