My brother had great results with the 168ttsx and imr7828 in his 300wby. Its a great bullet and holds up very well at even close range.
86gr IMR7828
Fed215M
3.560"
I would work up to this load. May be a bit hot.
IMR 4064 or H414 is what I would try if you have any handy. Also maybe the rifle just doesnt like the AMaxs that much. If you are after a heavy bullet maybe try the berger VLD or sierra.
Hoping to get my 243AI back from gunsmith next week and recheck a few loads with 95gr VLD and 105VLD. Then develop load for 90gr etips. Also 270wby with 140AB or 150IB. Then fine tune 223rem 50gr NBT with blc2 or rl7.
CZ All good info and Antelope is right on the money. Also note that many factory 243win have a 1-9.25 rate of twist. I am having no problem pushing the 105VLD in my 243AI either. As stated your rifle will tell you what it likes. If you are building one I would go with a 1-9 twist for the 107.
Clover My suggestion would be this. There are many good areas that can be drawn with 0 points in the "special" draw or 1 point in the regular. Take a look at the draw odds and harvest odds on the WY F&G website. Deadline is March 15th so Id get on it quickly. Like stated much of the eastern part...
Rem- A few more things to take a look at are your loads. Sometimes a simple primer change can tighten things up at longer range and still be great at closer range. Also careful loading practices and well prepped brass is a must for longer range. Sometimes a load will shoot very good at 100 but...
A few suggestions. Maybe throw together a couple handloads and try them out in the rifle. Also maybe it just doesnt like 180gr. Maybe try the 165gr or 200gr. The LRH is supposed to be a great rifle and Id suspect the "master gunsmith" is blowing smoke.
Rem- many things could be happening like stated above. Some more info would be good. What powder? Velocity? Optics? I would suspect a few things. Scope parallax would be one. Do you have a scope level? Give us some more info.
A bushing die is great if you want to change or tinker with your neck tension. Also the coated bushing require no lube to size. I find that the bushing dies from redding are very nice. A standard neck sizing die will also work. I would recommend you neck size your brass if the rifle is a bolt...
A buddy of mine is using the in his 30-06 with great results. Took an antelope and deer in WY this year and absolutely hammered them. Great bullet IMO!
I think you guys are rubbing off on me! I have been considering a 270wby for a few weeks now. I already own a 270win but just cant get this rilfe off my brain. Plus im a sucker for a nice weatherby.
Wisc- I would probably shoot the test loads and see how they do. BTW What powder are you using with the 165AB? Just because the powder doesnt shake around doesnt mean that its to much powder. A compressed load can build less pressure than a load with ample space just depends on the powders burn...
Have you checked this rifle to see if the barrel is free floated? Also I would bed the rifle and remove the pressure point then start my load data. I have found the 300RUM to be a highly accurate round when the right combo is found. Dont give up. Maybe loading a few different powder charges of...
Already got my 2011 hunt list printed. Can't wait to see what the draw will bring this year. Havent drawn anything the past few years so maybe 2011 is it.
