Put it this way. To find the needle in the hay...remove the hay and the needle will eventually show up.
There is a guy here in Denmark who has a nice 1952 fullstocked(Stutzen) for sale in 7x57.

Hey Guy.
Good to hear things are going well and you recover. A slow start-up program with a light recoiling rifle might keep you going. Back to .22lr and upwards.....just like in you teen years. Back to basics.
Keep up. Take care.

Hi Doc.
Thanks for the show.
I believe if you get 310grain woodleighs going 2280 ft/sec in that Whelen of yours + you have 225s doing +2600 ft/sec you would never look at a .358Norma again. Too much versatillity in such good caliber like the .35 Whelen.
A 310grain FMJ can kill elephants...
You have done your grinding job well I see....normally the 1903 Schönauer would never feed from the magazine with the above mentioned bullets. Only a 159 roundnose would work.
BTW: My best load was using 43grain Vithavouri N160 to a 159grain Teilmantel(softnose) from RWS.

I soon later dicovered power and...
All Mannlicher Schönauers at that time they were made were litterately a handfitted gun. I suspect from your description some former owner had lost the original Rotary steel magazine and had it replaced with another one. However they hadn´t done what you did. Used the time to grind angles on the...
With a .300Rum you are well prepared.
Ask the people down there to take you nightshooting at jackels, porcupines or a real afrikaaner springhaas jag(skiet). Ask if you and the party can burrow some shotguns for a rough shoot. Very informal and enjoyable.
Don´t forget to take lots of Pictures...
Beautiful rifle. Thanks for sharing.
if i recall correct from my Mannlicher Schönauer days the 1779-22 means it was made in 1922 and was the 1779th rifle made.
I do come a cross the carbine Model 1903 from time to time and I often feel I must have one again. They are lovely handling rifles...
