Great topic.
What killed the .223WSSM speed demon?. Was it too snappy for the need-for-speed crowd?.
I like it and I am still considering a rifle in that caliber one day.
Just wondering...
I couldn´t help to see what the .270WSM had to offer with the Norma Kalahari 120grain bullet. That too is a badass round. Very tempting to have a rifle made up in that caliber.
Ofcouse you could add an Accubrake but that will give a huge muzzlereport which nobody like unless that are deaf already.
However I believe a .300H&H loaded with a 180grain doing a moderate 2900/3000 ft/sec will still give you a "magnum feeling" but with less felt recoil. So if you are to...
In my book a sub 8mm is a small bore. Medium bore is from .338-416cal and heavy bore is +450cal.
However the British in the ol days ranked the +.600cal as large bore.....
medium bore: >.600cal-.400cal....
smallbore: >400cal...
Magnum smallbore rifle with a velocity of +2,500 ft/sec
Miniature...
My .378Bee will be heading for Africa in october.
Thanks for sharing Fotis. The .378Bee is Gods anger stuffed into that case and when unleashed....BOOOM...!!
I am still facinated by this cartridge. For me it is THE materialized symbol of the Weatherby superiority.
The 8x57 and the .303 British origin from 1888 and can still do most of it. Where the .303 has more of less faded out the 8x57 is still keeping up the fight(it hasn´t lost yet). To find a true pre-war(>1914) Mauser from Oberndorf in 8x57 is a treasure. It will serve its master for another...
I am very happy on your behalf for your upcomming african hunting trip.
Warthog is a wonderful animal to hunt like so many of the other game animals living on the african continent. The truth is in regards to all the animals found there is that a foreign hunter can bring a .22-250 and make a...
Frankm.
You are right. If a .257wea does 3400ft/sec with a 117grain bullet and a .240wea does (officially)3400ft/sec with a 100grain bullet the last 17grain of the .257wea ain't gonna move a mountain and the animals can't tell the diffence.
I chronographed a load here today.
55 Grain Norma MRP
100grain Speer GrandSlam
Norma brass
Fed 215
Velocity 990 m/sec.(3248ft/sec)
Barrel: 26"
COL: 78mm
No signes of too much pressure. I felt I could add a grain or two more powder and still be within sensible pressure.
My load lack...
That little caliber has really has become my pet. For a month ago I checked GunInternational and out of 512 Weatherbys for sale...only ONE was a .240weatherby with 24" barrel. Those things are rare. I am happy for other fellow hunters/shooters sees the light.
Congratulations frankm. You have...
I have shot a reloaded a lot for the 8x57. A 23" barrel would do just fine for a 200grain bullet to reach 2650 ft/sec. One might benefit with a longer barrel but it won´t be much since the 8x57 uses medium fast/slow burning powders.
I see the QL suggest a 58 grain Norma MRP powder. I don´t see...
If I should change to a .27Nosler over my .270WEa the Nosler round must be able to add atleast another +100 ft/sec over the Weatherby round with a 150grain. We must not forget the .270Weatherby is from 1943. If has become a Classic not yet superseeded in it´s class.
A .277cal 150grain doing...
Nosler is gettin´there....Looks really good now...I guess I have to invent the 27Nosler myself..:LOL
The 7mm looks like something I could get addicted to. A real plasma gun...
When we are now talking about the sixpointfives the 6,5x68 is a speed demon. 25 years ago it was quit commen to find rifles in that caliber in gunshops and the shootingrange. Today you don´t see them anywhere now overhere. There was also a rimmed version too for falllingblock and breakactioned...
