I just finished my dream hunt!!!
Me and some friends have been hunting a dominate white tail buck on along the east side of a creek for last 12 years.
Now we all know its not been the same buck making all those signs along that creek for that long time.
But they were all a ghosts! No one had...
Yep - Already done that.
Started her with the 125 Rem MR factory loads.
Then switched her to a 150 NP reload reduced to 2460 fps.
That steel butt plate gets to me with full power 180s
Yep, Get an old Enfield.
Get one with the rear ghost ring sight that flips up to an aperture "lop sight".
Doesn't quite fit the "slow" you want.
But, think it would fit your wants and you be happy using one.
With only 2 exceptions, I use the same LR primer for all my CF rifle reloads.
This way I can compare the degree of primer flattening as among other ways to watch pressure signs.
Been hunting deer for what seems forever - LOL.
I'll take the double lung, heart or quartering thru/out chest w/1 lung
UNTIL about 1/2 hr before dark, Where I switch to double shoulder at that time.
I'm not going to track and take a chance to loose a deer after dark any more!
Been there and...
That resembles me!
I'm in the middle of stage of working-up reloads for my 30-06 using 180 Rem CLs.
Currently at 55.0 grs of IMR-4350 and have found this to be VERY accurate from my 20" barrel. Chrony says average of 2,540 fps - SD = 15.3, CV = 0.60% with XS of 40. I can detect some...
Did find a great recoil reducer - An EvoShield t-shirt!
It's made from EvoShield company. They make all kinds of football pads.
Their pads harden and fit to your body when 1st exposed to air.
That t-shirt is a product they make for hunters. Kinda hard to find on their website. But it sure does...
Since I didn't hunt with the 458, an show y'all what I did use:
My theme this last year was like my old rifles:
Iron sight sporterized 303:
and
Since that pic I've added a fixed 4X scope.
L&L, Didn't mean to start a stir.
Somehow you quoted me quoting SJB358 saying some I said - Not SJB358!
I wrote: I'd add, That if you really see a need to go with that heavy of a bullet in a 308 - MAYBE you need a another rifle in a larger cartridge?
That's just me. I tend toward heavy for...
SJB358's comment early on, basically echos my thinking!
Have been reading this thread, but not posted till now.
I also tend toward heavy for caliber bullets, but not to the extreme.
I load 165s in my 1:12 twist 308. And yes, I did see where yours has the 1:10 twist. So rifle should be fine...
Hi Elkman.
Really didn't mean to hi-jack your thread. Was just playing with that comment of yours regarding the coin. But if there's anything I can help with I'll try.
There's 3 shots under each dime.
1st target was shot at 100 yards - 2nd at 200.
Well...I'm still cleaning guns from last years hunting.
Looked up this older thread and figured I'm give an update:
Took the 458 but didn't have opportunity to use it hunting as we were in shooting houses
and the muzzle rise of that rifle was too much for the small windows.
Did get some...
