Yep - Would be my recommendation, too.
So, I'd second this one!!!
I'd would hold the 150 NPT up as the standard bullet I would want,
But accuracy will come into play at and after about 200 yards.
Try both - Pick the one your rifle shoots best.
PS: If you pick 400 yards as your maximum range...
All my CF rifle reloading was done in February.
Well...I'm still working up some pistol reloads and adjusting the sights for POI.
I've shot some 22 rifle just to stay in practice. Did check sight-in for my 9.3 Last month.
My hunting box, pouch and rifle case was packed/repacked in February...
Ok, I, too, got a scope gone bad story:
Was on a 9Lb 308 M700. So recoil wasn't much, BUT
Out of blue started to shoot 2 pretty good groups - 3" apart!
Would alternate each shot from one group to the other!
Well...Around here,
Trespassing is dealt with by the local sheriff's department while
Poaching is dealt with by the state wildlife officials.
Even though you may know the trespassing is for poaching purposes.
April, I see bear "hunting" and bear "protection" as 2 different rifles!
If bear hunting (or hunting deer/caribou with bears in area),
I'd use my scoped 9.3x62 Mauser.
If around camp, fishing or hiking with threat of bears in area.
I'd have my iron sight 458 Win Mag with me.
PS: Take 2 rifles
I don't have a clue either at this point.
I'll rotate rifles based on best one for my hunt plan.
If hunting away from home I take 2.
Somehow I usually get around to them all before the seasons are over.
Gerry,
My guess is that, that Speer round nose bullet will penetrate more than those CLs
due to the RN mushrooming slower and to a lesser diameter.
I've never used Speer RN bullets, but have reloaded Hornady 174 IL RN in a 7.7x58.
I never found any of those Hornady RN bullets; They all exited.
SJB and Gerry,
I know your asking for Gerry's recovered bullets, But:
I can share the 1 and only recovered bullet I have from my No.4 MK1*.
It was a 180 grain Rem factory load at 7 yards into a deer.
Broke front left shoulder and a rib, when thru body and right ham
was found under skin...
Ianman,
You have to be careful how your evaluating Nosler Partitions.
The nose is soft and typically, the nose expands and opens up very quickly.
The nose is soft, many times it expands so quickly
it loses its nose (about 30% of the bullet weight).
The remaining 70% penetrates very well w/o the...
Yes - That is my one and only exception, too.
I worked up 2 reloads for my 458 WM.
Took me 3 years of tinkering to get these 2 loads to:
1) Shoot to the same POI and then
2) Shooting to the same POA.
My work finally paid dividends - See:
Two shot 1/16" CTC at 50 yds with irons sights.
Two...
