Europe,
I've had 2 rifles in 8mm Mauser.
So began reloading for them.
Tried a lot of bullets from 185 to 220 grs.
Finally settled on a 200 gr for both of them.
While I probably pick my 9.3 for 1 rifle to take all that game listed,
I think I could take all that with my 200 gr reload with either...
Yes I have this old Bubbized No4 Mk1* that I keep in the truck during hunting season:
It was given to me FREE !
Someone had hacksawed the barrel and the front forearm square.
Did even try to re-crown barrel - Just left it sawed.
They also put on a front site crooked.
Wouldn't hit a letter...
Except for my 458winmag, The rest are one load for one rifle.
This way I just pick the best rifle suited for my hunt plan.
My tendency has been to pick bullets that are heavy for caliber.
My read and take on your situation is that that Cabelas has a problem employee!
At the his 2nd "take a number", I would have demanded to speak to his manager right then and there even if it meant stop the line or make a scene. With the manager there, I would have confronted the employee with...
My favorite deer cartridge is a 270 Win - 2 rifles.
My favorite working rifles are a:
Bubbaized No4-Mk1* (303B) stays in truck:
And a Custom Vz-24 Mauser in 9.3x62 for really anything:
I've always consider a 243W to be "deer size" appropriate cartridge.
Although, I've never had a rifle in that caliber.
I also believed that the 243W has its limits.
My experience is limited to friends and buddies I've been on hunts with.
I was with a group on a guided hunt for deer and hogs...
I'm with Sam - Most any 180 grain bullet out of a 06 is going to put a deer down.
Whitetail deer just aren't that tough.
I use the 180 Rem CLs just because I got'em in a bullet swap - they have worked every time.
If you have both ABs and BTs use'em both.
When you go to buy more, But the ones...
jr1968, I see at one time you posted:
"I just bought a Marlin 336 in 35 Remington"
If you still have this rifle, Its made for and almost perfect for the hunting you describe!?
See another member mentioned it, too.
Dang-it! why would you put that nagging thought in my head?
Haven't thought of anything else since I read your post today:
Of how I would love to have a 400 mile backyard!
