Helped a friend load some 28 Nosler and there was a thousand or two difference in the lots of Nosler vs Hornady brass that he had. I could look up the bushing size we used if you don’t get an answer from someone. I d just need to get in my shop.
Let me know.
Both good choices. See which one shoots best.
The 257 Bee is way overbore so you can go slower burn rates than these 2 if you have anything.
Shot some R33 in mine with 110 AB a while back and 3500 fps was easy with no pressure. Didn’t try going any faster; no need. Accuracy was 3/4 moa at...
Starting to see them more frequently but pricing still high. Over time I think we ll see $50-70 1K prices but doubtful we ll get back to $30-35 a thousand.
That said $50-60 per thousand is “fair in my mind” but not the $100-120 everyone wants to gouge for still. When more folks quit paying “...
An in-expensive alternate is the 50 or 55 gr spsx Hornady. (SX for super explosive) These bullets both designed around 222 and 223 velocities. Often a 22-250 will turn them into a molten mass of copper/lead.
In my 26” barrel 66 grs of R22 tan 2975 fps with 162 AMax. 1/2-3/4” 100 yd groups. Any more powder and groups opened and velocity increase wasn’t that great.
Retumbo would run 3075 fps ish but either of those loads performed great.
I can’t believe the buying frenzy is as rampage now as within the past couple years.
The bullets are either going into loaded manufacturers ammo or the bullet companies aren’t producing as many for whatever reason…. ie: short staffed, cost/availability of copper and lead, keeping supply in...
I worked up to the Hodgkin max LilGun load of 16 grs with 40 VMax years ago …. Too hot for my gun. Stiff bolt, primer pocket expansion in one firing, etc. Backed off to 15.4 grs and helped out. Don’t like case fill with LilGun so that ll go into my Shotshells loading.
Went to AA1680 at 18 grs...
Been running R26 in my 240 WB with lots of case capacity remaining. Wondered what R33 might do and how much I could get to with 100% fill. Looks like slightly north of 60 grains.
Anyway, would someone be so kind to run me a QL on the following data? I m thinking this exercise might be worth...
I ve shot 36.6 grs of imr4831 in my 8 twist 22-250 with 80 gr Berger…. 3/8-1/2 moa. Sierra has it as their accuracy load in one of they re older manuals. Probably want to back down to 34 grs or so and work up as you re using a bullet that’s 6% heavier.
If you re going to use all the number 1 compound I d forewarn you that those will lengthen your throat probably more than the other 4 grits.
If your rifle is shooting satisfactory accuracy wise Tubbs instructions will tell you to use grits 2 through 5. Those will smooth it up and reduce copper...
I ve done a good dozen rifles with SSS (Tubbs) Final Finish. I only use it on factory barrels like Rem 700 s, Weatherby Vanguards, etc.
I ll get a new rifle, clean it bare, no copper, carbon or anything. I will typically fire 1/2 of the bullets (5) of grits 2-5. I ll sometimes do 6-7 of #4 and...
Would someone mind running a QL for a 257 Weatherby with following data:
R33
65K max
26” barrel
110 Nosler AB
110 Sierra Gamechger ( if in QL)
3.420 oal s
Thx in advance. Been using R26 but landed a couple pounds of R33 so should work nicely in case.
